15 People's Proudest Accomplishments This Year, To End 2018 On A Positive Note

This has been quite a year for almost everyone I know. A lot of tragic events have occurred, but I didn't want to focus on that for this article. I wanted to focus on people's accomplishments for the year.

However big or small they were, I wanted to hear about them. Below is a list of 15 of my favorites!

1. "I got to see my baby girl graduate high school. It was such a proud moment for me. Raising her all by myself wasn't easy by any means, but seeing her now made it all worth it."

2. "I passed my NCLEX! I'm so ready to be a nurse!"

3. "I kept my promise of not eating meat all year. It was especially hard around the holidays, but I did it!"

4. "I gave birth. I know that may not sound like an accomplishment, but it is for me. I was so scared to actually go through with it, and I did it. All the pain was worth it to see my son's beautiful eyes."

5. "I left a toxic relationship. She drained so much energy from my life and didn't let me see my friends. It was way overdue."

6. "I got my own place. I lived in a very negative place, and I feel so much more emotionally healthy being out of that house."

7. "I came to terms with my sexuality. I've been denying it for so long and this just made it worse. I started to have seizures and decided that it was time for me to stop pretending I was something I'm not."

8."I opened a savings account for the first time in my life. I've always been really bad with money, and this year I wanted to change that."

9. "I lost 30 pounds! It was hard work, but I found a dance class that makes exercise fun. I changed my eating habits slowly and started writing in my journal whenever I got a craving. I've never felt better!"

10. "I married my best friend of 10 years. She's the best."

11. "I survived. This year was the hardest year of my life. I had a miscarriage, lost my job and lost my dad. I'm barely making it, but I'm still here."

12. "I went to rehab and got clean! I'm so proud of myself. There were days I didn't think I could do it and would rather just die. Those days are over."

13. "I went overseas for the first time after a lifelong fear of flying! It wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it would be."

14. "I consistently attended therapy even though most days I didn't want to. I still don't know if it's right for me, but I'm proud of myself for at least trying."

15. "I got full custody of my son. It's been a long battle, but he's finally going to have the parent he deserves."

I hope this list warmed your heart as it did mine. If you don't feel like you accomplished much this year, don't fret. You're here. You're still trying and there's always next year to achieve your goals.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
