The most profound messages are often expressed in the simplest ways. This is true for artist Dallas Clayton. He is a one of a kind author, illustrator and mural painter. More importantly, he is a happiness and adventure enthusiast who travels the world, spreading his positivity and sharing his ideas with everyone he meets. While he is considered a children’s book author, his work is deep and inspirational, and should be recognized by audiences of all ages. Here are a few of my favorite thought-provoking messages, written and illustrated by Dallas Clayton, and the truths I've perceived from them:
Don't worry.
It is very common for teenagers and young adults to constantly worry about what is next. It is also easy to feel lost and out of control when something in life doesn't seem to go the way you had planned. Life is spontaneous and a lot of times, out of our control. It is a series of ups and downs, constant changes and transitions. Rather than resisting and worrying about the future, sit back and enjoy the ride.
Step out of your comfort zone.
Making excuses for things we think we do not want to do can be very easy, but we will never discover ourselves or all the world has to offer us if we stay in our own comfortable safe zone. Do something you have never done. Start a conversation with someone you've never spoke to. Travel to a place you've never seen. You will miss out on all of the fun of life if you don't!
Change and grow.
Humans for some odd reason naturally fear change. The funny thing about this is that most want to eventually become someone that they are not today or were not a few years ago. In order to truly grow as a person, change is required. Do not be afraid to transition and make changes in your life in order to achieve personal growth and development, and become the best version of yourself.
Always be yourself.
People are so concerned about what others think about them that they forget, or even worse, never find out who they truly are. People will always have something to say whether it is good or bad. The thing to remember about this is that what someone thinks of you is their own perception. What you think of yourself is all that matters, so be what or whoever you want to be!
Appreciate the little things.
There is beauty to be found in the simplest parts of every day. All we need to do is take the time or open our eyes to see that it is all around us. Enjoy the commonalities of every day, learn to appreciate them for what they are and don't take for granted the simplest aspects of everyday life. Lastly, never forget to be grateful for all the beauty the world has to offer.
