As censorship is becoming less and less of a controversial problem, many celebrities are dealing with the risk in exposure of their personal lives. When I was younger, I wondered how great figures have it with the fame, fortune, glamour and luxuries. Growing up, however, has taught me that most of it is for looks, and from seeing all the magazine headlines at the checkout counter in supermarkets gave me an idea of how falsified most famous people’s lives are seen to be. In our basic human behavior, we all tend to judge each other, and I admire how well the big name actors, singers, authors and athletes handle the judgement that comes with being well-known. Especially in today’s modern society where one Instagram upload will receive thousands of likes and comments within minutes. Due to this, I would like to address the issue in which these celebrities have almost no private life since the media stalks for the sole purpose of a nice, eye-catching headline for the public. I feel we shouldn’t look for the wrongs in anyone, even if one’s views or ideals are different.
Even I’m guilty for going through and envying flawless runway models, but as I stated before, they are all humans. They still act, react and feel the same emotions, it’s just behind the grand makeup, clothing and jewelry which probably cost more than my life savings. Though I won’t complain since they all have talent and an intriguing aura to them. Unfortunately, I’ve been seeing too many negative comments directed towards others’ insecurities like freckles and body types (which by the way are all beautiful.) This forces others to change in order to conform and gain approval, for example, Kylie Jenner’s plastic surgery was very controversial, but it all stemmed from her insecurities and people calling her out on them. I don’t exactly keep up with the Kardashians, but I do respect their strength as a family no matter what issues or mess ups occur. What I’ve also noticed is anonymity tends to bring out the meaner side in people, for example, the anonymous chatting app Yik Yak was banned from my high school due to the mass cyber bullying directed towards specific individuals that came with it. We can’t help judging others, but we can make an effort to be more respective of others’ choices.
The media has become quite corrupt with headlines pin pointing luminaries on their drug addictions or marital issues. It has become such a problem that the simplest issue is shown to be life changing or detrimental to the celebrity. And I’m sure the individual wouldn’t prefer the general public to know about all aspects of their life. This also will affect any children, other family members and loved ones; everyone makes mistakes and it’s no different for famous people. It is a reputation and legacy that the media ends up destroying for that one juicy story, so to all the famous ones out there who deal with massive judgement through their own fan base, keep strong and don’t let the negativity get to you.
