As a child, I loved learning about history. I loved hearing about all of the wars, the treaties, and the ultimate peace and democracy that our country has become known for. So when I was perusing twitter and came across our presidential candidates "slaying" each other, I couldn't help but roll my eyes and inwardly apologize to the centuries-worth of people who once fought to make this country great.
Let's get real: Our country is doomed.
Our country is doomed for a number of reasons, obviously, but first and foremost is the fact that twitter drama is now headline news. Hilary Clinton, who's been desperately trying to grasp the millennial vote with her "hip lingo" responded to Donald Trump's tweet with a simple, "delete your account."
This tweet went viral instantly. So viral that it has now become the most retweeted tweet for the duration of Clinton's campaign. Ah, that restores my faith in the country. America seems to care more about the shade Clinton's throwing rather than the numerous tweets she's made about her policies for this nation.
Now let's get down to the meat of what this tweet really means. Sure, maybe she was just trying to be funny and connect with our millennial mindset, but the truth of the matter is that she had NO RESPONSE to Trump's tweet. Trump once again asked about the infamous emails, and Clinton's only response was to "bash" him. Am I the only one that thinks that this is a problem?
Let me put it this way: When I'm fighting with my kid brother, I usually win. How do I know I win? Because he no longer has a response to my arguments, therefore he results to mocking me.
Clinton is my little brother in this situation. She can no longer intelligently respond to serious questions and arguments that will undoubtedly sway her voters. She has now resorted to starting twitter beef because she has nothing else going for her. And the worst part?
America supports this.
We have become so obsessed with the drama and the intrigue that surrounds this election we no longer care about the big issues. We officially pay more attention to these middle school-esque twitter fights than we do to the presidential debates.
As I look back to the history classes I once loved, a pit now forms in my stomach. There will no longer be stories of treaties and debates, rather of twitter fights and deleted emails. Sometimes I try to picture how my future children will react to this information...then I realize that America probably won't make it another ten years if the only two choices we have for president are Clinton or Trump.
