Friday, January 20, 2017 at 12:00 p.m., Donald Trump became the 45th President of the United States . Regardless if you registered Republican, Democrat, Libertarian, etc. he is now your president.
Since the inauguration, who am I kidding, since the first announcement of the running presidential candidate, there's been so much division. Today we have slander, destruction, marches, protests, all of these things that will not take his title as POTUS away. Now, I don't need to be reminded that “free speech” is free, nor do I need a restatement of your amendment rights. Contrary to popular belief, before forming any opinions towards any of the circumstances that have come up since November 7, I've considered both sides. Not once have I thought, "I agree with this person's actions because they are in the same political party as me". Unlike most, I don't agree with Tomi Lahren on every subject, nor do I agree completely with celebrity women who are liberal, such as Madonna or Ashley Judd. I've thought of their personal feelings, in particular--those who don't do everything just to be under the spotlight of the media--and I tried to empathize. However, to be quite honest there was many I couldn't make any logical sense of. So here's a few of them.
He IS your president, let me repeat, he IS your president. Just as Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have been mine in the past 17 years of my existence. Personally, there have been times where I didn't completely agree with what MY president had stood for, but not once did I cry “not my president” while destroying a place of business or setting an American Flag on fire. Every person had a time for their voice to be heard, but that time is over now. The election is over and done with, so should be the arguments over it.
You beg for change, but refuse to be it. I've thought long and hard about how I would react if my candidate had not won, even before the election began. I've come to the conclusion that if you could not be respectful to Hillary if she was President, then you have no room to open your mouth on the matter. Mindfully that doesn't change the fact that slandering a man who has been president for less than a week is WRONG. Both candidates had their own pasts and it was up to the people to pick one. The people spoke. Now sit back, learn some manners, and pray. Pray for our country. Pray for our President. Everyone wishing bad on President Trump and failure on him, shame on you. I am not saying he is a saint, what I am saying is give this man a chance to prove himself.
“They never respected Obama in all eight years, why should we respect Trump?” I guess being the bigger person is no longer an option here in the United States. While not everyone disrespected Obama, those who disagreed with him had reasons, and not all went to the same degree of disrespect that is happening now. They still did not scream “NOT MY PRESIDENT” and blatantly wished him to fail. Trump hasn't been in office long enough for you to make decisions on whether or not you agree with his actions as a president. His family has not been giving an ice cube’s chance in hell either. No matter what they do, someone has something horrible and demeaning to say.
You are only furthering the division. You speaking such hatred and foul wishes on Trump, his supporters, etc. this is what makes the division worse. Refusing to accept him as your president only continues to divide us as a whole. He has not started taking your rights away, maybe some people don't fully understand the way rights work, but it takes more than a President. Nor could the other candidate magically grant you with any more rights if they were in office instead.
Let your voice be heard, but do it in a civil manner. If you're fueled with hate, you weren't looking for conversation anyways. Referring to every republican as misogynistic, bigot, racist, homophobic, etc. puts a weight on the changes you are fighting for when you label them all as one. Let us all find better ways to express ourselves and communicate. That is how we will bring each other together.
I pray we can find a way to all be a nation again, pray for our people, pray for our hearts, and pray for our President.
