6:30 a.m. – You arise to the all too familiar sound of preset iPhone tunes ringing through your ears. You check the time and realize this is the earliest you have woken up since two semesters ago when you took your first 8 a.m. class. You are instantly reminded of how painful it is to leave your bed this early and contemplate dropping the class before it even starts. 6:30 was way too early to set your alarm anyway, so you hit snooze and forget all your worries.
6:35 a.m. - You have forgotten the protocol for hitting snooze and are elated to find that it has only been five minutes since you woke up last and you already decided you could sleep until seven, so you reset your alarm and happily take in those last twenty-five glorious minutes.
7:00 a.m. - The noise…it's back. Your peaceful twenty-five minute slumber is ruined and you are back to debating if you will even make it to class at all. It is the first day, what could you possibly miss? Surely nothing important happens until at least the second time your class meets. You allow yourself five minutes to lie in bed and compose your thoughts.
7:05 a.m. - You begin to dissect your morning schedule trying to decide the exact amount of time you have left to sit in your bed and wallow in self-pity. Just thinking of all the things you must do before you even leave your house today sounds exhausting, and you haven’t even begun to delve into your schedule after your leave the house.
7:07 a.m. - This is it. You have finally talked yourself into doing the adult thing, you want to start the semester off on the right, so you muster up all the energy you can find and slowly begin to get ready.
7:38 a.m. - You frantically grab your keys after glancing at the clock and realize the extra seven minutes you spent in bed were a bad decision, had you gotten out of bed even just a little bit earlier maybe you would have enough time to find a shirt that wasn’t wrinkled, or a pair of socks that matched. You scramble out the door and whip out of your driveway.
7:40 a.m. - As you are racing to campus you can’t find a song on the radio that you can listen to for even more that 30 seconds. You really shouldn’t be slowing down to plug in your auxiliary cord and pull up Spotify, but after the morning you have had it is a must.
7:50 a.m. - You arrive on campus only to get stuck parking a mile or two away from your class. It is 7:50 in the morning…you had no idea that the every parking lot would be entirely filled. You get out of your car only to realize you haven’t even bothered to look up where your class is. You pull out your phone and quickly try to locate your class, but the Wi-Fi is barely working and you are sent into panic mode.
7:57 a.m. - Finally. You see your classroom in the near distance and you can finally relax. You have made it! – not to mention that you left yourself with three minutes to spare. You take a sigh of relief, waking up wasn’t that bad after all. You walk towards your classroom with a more positive attitude than you have had all morning because things are looking up.
7:58 a.m. - The feeling of relief quickly passes once you realize your professor is already in the front of the room, and every row is filled with timely well-dressed people. You slowly finagle your way to a spot in the third row, by this time your wrinkly shirt and poor time management skills have already been displayed for the entire class to see, and that is basically setting yourself up for failure.
8:00 a.m. - You unpack your backpack only to find left over binders from last semester, and you consider it lucky that you were even able to find a pencil. You realize that you should have been more prepared for school to start, but right now you desperately want to be back in your comfortable bed. You are convinced that skipping today definitely would have been the best option. You lay your arms on your desk and plop your head on them wondering how you are going to survive another semester with an 8:00 a.m. class.
