A Prayer For Our Great Nation

The 2016 election shook our entire nation. It has divided those who did not expect the outcome and those who are relieved. It has revealed unreasonable hate from both parties and further distanced us from the one our country needs the most. Now more than ever we need to pray.

Dear God,

First, and foremost, thank you. Thank you for allowing me to live in a country where I am able to exercise the right to vote, for I know there are many without a democracy. Thank you for giving me the health to be able to go vote-- I know there are many people who are not as fortunate as I. Thank you for blessing me with another day on Earth to see Donald Trump be our president-elect, regardless of if I voted for him or not. I know that everyday is not guaranteed.

Next, I want to pray for those who wanted nothing more than to see Hilary Clinton be the first female president. I pray that you are with them through their devastation and comfort them during their time of grief. I hope that you place it upon their hearts to give Trump a chance to shake-up our nation's corrupt political system. I pray they relinquish all of their negative thoughts to you and refrain from hateful crimes, actions, and words. Please be with them in their time of need.

Thirdly, I want to pray for Trump supporters. Instill upon them that they should not promote hate, discrimination or racism. Remind them that there is nothing stronger in this world than your endless love. Be with them during their time of celebration but remind them this is not a time to gloat.

Regardless of people's political preferences, I want to pray for them. Ingrain your love into each Americans' heart and erase the hate. Be with each person that promotes hatred on social media and their communities, stress that you do not endorse this behavior. I pray they find you and ask for your forgiveness. Remind those that believe all Trump supporters are bigots, racists, promoters of sexism and rape, that they are not -- you would not allow your children to be such a thing. Prompt the anti-Clinton advocates that this is not a time to gloat or encompass devil-like qualities, instead now more than ever they should love every one for their neighbors. I pray that you mend each friendship and relationship that may have been tarnished by this monumental election.

Finally, I want to pray for president-elect Donald Trump and his future cabinet members. It is comforting knowing that you will be with them in their transition into the White House and throughout their terms. However, I pray that you make it easy for each and every one of them to make the right decisions. Lead them down a path that will eliminate the divide in this great nation. Show them the way to a nation you would want, one filled with equality and love.

Please be with us. We need you Lord, now more than ever.

Amen.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
