My Little Sister,

Thank you for coming along to be my friend,

Because life without you is hard to comprehend.

When you were a baby, I’d talk to you about everything.

You would just listen and chew on your teething ring.

When you got a bit older and learned to talk,

We’d play Barbies, ride bikes, and draw with sidewalk chalk.

I felt so lucky to have a little buddy following me around,

Like you were amazed at my world and I never wanted to let you down.

As the years rolled on, you found your own passions and I found mine.

Nevertheless, I still made sure you were walking in a straight line.

You stole my clothes and I embarrassed you in front of your friends,

But that night, we would forget it ever happened and laugh without end.

I watched you learn from my mistakes and I watched you fall.

I wanted to protect you from everything because you were still so small.

I supported every decision you made because that’s what sisters do.

I didn’t always agree, but I was there to solve any problems you ran into.

When boys come to complicate your world and make you frown,

I’ll always be there to bring you iced coffee and turn your frown upside down.

When you feel hopeless and nothing seems to be going your way,

I promise to tell you I love you and that everything is going to be okay.

Now that we’re older and spending time together isn’t as easy as it used to be,

I just want you to know that you’ll always mean the world to me.

You’ve grown into a beautiful young lady and you’re going to do great things,

The man that marries you will be so lucky when the wedding bells ring.

You’re always be my little buddy and I love you with all my heart.

That’s a forever promise, until death do us part.
