As I woke up this morning, tears filled my eyes. I awoke to the tragic news that fills our world now. Shooting upon shooting, black versus white, officer versus civilian. This time it was so close to a place I have now come to call home.
I am not here to speak my side. I believe creating more divisions in our country seems to be least helpful choice right now. Our news and social media platforms have started to infiltrate people with always choosing sides. This only causes for more disunion. The disunion between #AllLivesMatter and #BlackLivesMatter has wedged so many fallacies between American citizens.
If someone posts an opinion we do not agree with, we feel the need to reply and berate the person with our thoughts. “I will make them think differently”, we say to ourselves. Instead of that mentality, why don’t we agree to disagree and work toward a more perfect union?
What our world needs so desperately right now is more love, peace, hope, grace, light, and compassion. Responding to violence with violence is never the answer. Responding to hate with more hate is unwarranted. Instead of looking at others, and thinking, “why are people so awful?”, look inside yourself . Be the best person you can be and fill this world with joy. When surrounded by hate and violence, chose to spread joy and love. That’s all we can do.
Pray for the families who are affected no matter the side. Pray for all your fellow citizens of America. And most especially, pray for our world, that we may find peace and refuge during this painful time.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
