Self-care is something that is often placed on the back burner in many people's lives, however, it is one of the most important aspects of life. A common misconception is that self-care is all about doing big extravagant things, like going on a road trip across the country or going to a therapist three times a week. Don't get me wrong, therapy is great and often times incredibly helpful, but self-care is not always something nine out of 10 doctors recommend. Often times, it is something you can do from the comfort of your own living room. Here are a few easy ways to take care of yourself that don't involve sitting in a waiting room!

1. Make time for yourself

I know what you're thinking, "how am I supposed to make time for myself when I barely have time to breathe?" Trust me, it's just as easy as it sounds. Take a minute out of every day to remind yourself that you got this. No matter what stress or anxiety you may be feeling, remember that all this too shall pass.

2. Have a spa night

Although it's number two on this list, this is my number one go-to way to relax after a stressful day or week. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, Target sells face masks for as cheap as $1.99 and they're great! This is great to do by yourself or with your friends if you need some girl (or boy) time.

3. Watch your favorite show

This can also be included in your spa night. Watching your favorite feel good tv show or movie can instantly lift your spirits.

4. Take a nap

I don't know about you, but I get super grumpy when I'm tired, which is basically all the time because, let's be real, I'm in college. Even if it's just a quick 15 minutes, this can be enough to give you some energy to get through your day.

5. Eat your favorite food

Don't be so hard on yourself. Eat that donut or those chips. Treat yo self, girl.

6. Play with a dog (or cat)

A good puppy snuggle changes everything. If you don't have a furry friend of your own, go to your local shelter and see if they allow visitors!

7. Call a friend

You know those friends that can make you laugh no matter how down you feel? Give them a call. Ask for a pep talk. Yes, it's okay to ask for one, we all need a pep talk now and then.

8. Do something that makes you happy

Whether it's drawing, singing, running or just laying down, make time to do something you actually enjoy.

9. Track your mood

I just discovered this app called Color-Calendar that lets you color code your month day by day based on what mood you are in each day. It also lets you take notes on how you are feeling and why. This is a great way to self-reflect.

10. Meditate

There is an awesome app called Pacifica that gives you tools to help manage daily stress and anxiety. It includes a bunch of different settings where you can put in how you are feeling and it customizes what kind of meditation exercises would be most helpful for you in that moment.

Please always remember that taking care of yourself is super important, no matter how busy life gets! Hang in there!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
