Post-Election: The Country's Chaos

I'm not sure if this country has ever been great.

The country is not happy. We are at one another's necks for the outcome of this years presidential election. Some are angry for who our president-elect is, others are angry at those against our new president-elect. The only thing in common is anger.

There is anger from both parties. There is anger from all sexualities, races, genders and religions. There is anger from families, students, teachers and the common worker. Anger has sparked protests all over the country, in cities like Chicago, Omaha, and New York City and in Washington D.C. People are burning flags sparking out lash from others claiming they should be executed right then for "disrespecting" our country. People are starting 'hashtags' #NotMyPresident and #FuckDonaldTrump to express their fear and worry but those for Trump are telling these people to leave the country and attacking their right to free speech. This election has started hatred within our country.

Families are disowning other family members. Friends are breaking relationships with one another because they voted for Trump or because they are against Trump. We are blaming one another and placing each other in categories, saying ALL whites are racist, or that everyone protesting was for Hillary or is a sore loser for it. We all know this just isn't the case but it's just easier to blame someone sometimes. We are casting fear in one another because of a single man who doesn't really hold that much power over us.

Why are people so fearful? Let's start with the easy one. A man who has said many times throughout the election that he wants to get rid of Muslims and Hispanics has casted this fear. A man who has been accused of being racist, misogynist, and a rapist, has sparked this outrage. People fear for their rights of being able to express their identity whether they are gay, transgender, or someone who is trying to demonstrate their religion freely. People fear that our country will be poorly run by a man with no experience. People are fearing an increase in hate crimes, which many have already happened. These people have the right to fear.

Then there's those that fear the protests. It's scary when there are thousands of people marching in your city fearing the unknown of what people are capable of. Families are worried about their brothers, daughters, uncles and wives not knowing if they are safe or not. The safety of those driving home is compromised when angry protesters start jumping on their cars and blocking traffic is a very real thing. Of course these people have a right to protest especially if they feel that rights may be taken away but it is not okay to put themselves or others in danger.

What can we do to stop this hatred and fear? How can anyone on either side get peace of mind? It starts with "We the People." The citizens can fight to love each other, to protest PEACEFULLY, to hold one another's' hands and refuse hatred, racism, misogamy, sexism, and other prejudice. Stop being oppressed, I'm not saying that people aren't, I'm saying not to let it happen to you or to others of ALL races, genders, and religions; and do not oppress those who oppress you, because an eye for an eye starts wars, and why fall in to that trap?

Stand together, stop blaming one another; it starts with The People. This country is based on US not them. They are meant to represent "We The People" and we can start by opening up their eyes to see that. It's alright to disagree, but try to agree to disagree. No one person has the same views and ideas.

If your government fails you then it is time to fight, but until then all we can do is remember to love each other. I'm not sure if this country has ever been great, but we can make it great.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
