In a world so full of hate and anger and fear I think it's time to spread some love...

Excelsior Men's Society

I can't say enough about the men of Excelsior. Honestly, I feel bad at times because too often these men are written off because they like their guns and their beer and their girls but hey, this is a frat right? It's about having fun and they really like to have fun. That being said, this group of men are some of the most caring and loyal I have ever met (but don't tell them that, it'll hurt their manly pride and make them feel things). It really is a great thing to see when Alumi come back to campus and they are still proud to be an EX. They wear their letters, they call each other by their nicknames, they talk like it hasn't been ten years since they've seen each other. It's actually kind of heart warming. The amount of money that this group has managed to raise for the university is unbelievable. Did you know they own a road outside of Tiffin? They do! They literally own a road and clean it and that's just great. It is obvious every EX loves their brothers and the deep rooted brotherhood is clear to see. Just from personal experience I am very grateful to them because when I broke my leg I was literally carried by two of the men (shout out to Robbie and Shane!) outside to a car to go to the hospital. Gliding over the fact that I was a sobbing, blubbering mess and these guys were sweating from playing the championship round of Tug-of-War and they still carried my fat ass, it was an enjoyable experience. The EX's are a great bunch of guys and Heidelberg is lucky to have them.

Alpha Phi Tau

The Ap's are a strange bunch. Not bad strange by any stretch of the imagination, but good strange. It's the kind of strange that makes me want to know more about them. The Ap's also have a bomb ass Twitter page and the live tweeting that happens during their meetings is just hysterical. These guys seem to be the most laid back men I've ever met. They go with the flow in a way that I wish we all could. They could have some internal problems and struggles but I have no idea what they are and honestly if they are ever having problems I don't think anyone would know. They hold their secrecy to high standards and I believe that is so admirable. The New Member Education process (along with their group in general) is shrouded in secrecy befitting the CIA. One time I am going to sneak into one of their meetings dressed as some type of character from Harry Potter - they'll never know it's me! - just to listen in on their meeting.

Sigma Tau Nu

The Sigs! What a rowdy bunch of guys. They literally are always having fun. They are literally always laughing. They are literally always YELLING. It just seems like a great place to be, among the Sigs. I know that there are probably, just like in every fraternity, some stuff that goes on behind the scenes but up front they seem to be a happy bunch of guys. I knew a man going through pledging last semester and the amount of excitement he had when he got his bid to be a Sig was unbelievable. I was happy because he was just so pumped to be a part of the brotherhood. The Sigs are so accomplished - the president is not only the Sig president but also the president of Student Senate. That is extremely impressive (you go Kevin!) When times have buckled down on them and they needed to man up and apologize for their actions they really have come through. Even going above and beyond and writing cards and purchasing flowers when they knew that things they said had hurt other groups. It was a desperate hour and they really pulled through in impressive ways. Stay happy Sigs.

Nu Sigma Alpha

Hey Heids! So the Heids are an interesting bunch of men. They've been on probation a lot, they get in trouble sometimes, but they're a bunch a kick ass men. The Heids are like chameleons, hidden among the throngs of different groups, different athletics, and different jobs. The Heids are so involved and honesty? They are so cool. (Like, really cool. Like, imagine a teenage girl tossing her hair over her shoulder multiple times and saying "they are so cool" over and over again). Let's just talk about how cool they are for a second. They are very handsome - have you ever seen an ugly Heid? I haven't. They're interesting and attractive and I'm pretty sure you aren't allowed to be a Heid unless you're a combination of handsome and fascinating. They are so involved in athletics and each one of them are so extremely talented. The Heids have so many layers that need to be peeled back to truly understand them.

Rho Eta Delta

Rho Rho Rho Eta Delta! Pride Honor and Dignity! The Rho's are great. They love each other. They truly do. They love each other so much and their bromance is so strong that sometimes I'm jealous because I know that I will never find a man to love me the same way the men of Rho Eta Delta love each other. Sure, they have some problems - every frat has problems but the love they have has surpassed any problems that arise. They always get so pumped when they see each other either around campus, in the cafeteria or in the dorms. You can hear a Rho coming from half a campus away. Everyone knows when one of the Rho's, Ben, sees one of his brothers because you can hear his laugh echoing all the way from the MCC to UHall. The Rho's are so talented and so diverse and I am proud to say I am among the members of their corollary. I'm proud to be a Rhos' Bud because I can say that they are all my friends. They are all about each other and they all care deeply for one another.

Zeta Theta Psi

Determination. Passionate. Fabulous Feminists. Just some of the words that are used to describe this sorority. We could all learn a few things from these determined women. It was no easy feat getting this sorority started up. A lot of hard work, time, patience, and determination went into getting this group running. The Zeta women are so inspirational and so positive that I really wish everyone could take pages from their book. I feel proud to be a woman just because the Zeta's have helped me realize how great being a woman can be. They are all so gorgeous and motivated. They are involved and hard working. The Zeta's are all about woman empowerment and that is something we really need these days. We need people out there to remind us girls that we are great, we can do amazing things, nothing is impossible. The women of Zeta Theta Psi are going to grow up to be leaders and presidents and motivational speakers and that is just inspiring.

Philalethean Society

First of all I will say that it took me a couple of trys to spell Philaletheancorrectly. Anyways, the Phi's (because that is a little easier to not only say but also spell) are a very unique bunch of woman. They have deep roots in their history and they stick to their traditions firmly. They didn't get to be one of the oldest sororities on campus by not having such a deep love for their group and it really shows. Seeing their Alumnae (female Alumni according to Webster's dictionary) on campus and also in pictures is honestly awe inspiring. There are hundreds of them and they are all so proud. Green and yellow run thick in their blood even though some have been graduated for over fifty years. I know their pledging process can get difficult but really it helps create the bond of sisterhood that makes their sorority so great. You can clearly see the bonding, the loyalty and the love among each and every one of these woman. One day each month they all wear their white jackets and black dress and girls you rock them! The amount of pride that bleeds through when they wear their letter is astounding. And their hats are pretty cool too.

Euglossian Society

Here's another one that I had to try a few times to spell correctly - I apologize. So, the Eug's. There is really nothing I can say to truly caption the love, the sisterhood, the determination, the loyalty, the friendship, and the drive that these women have. They are so kind. The kindest group on campus. They are always willing to lend a helping hand weather it be for a project, a group function, or if anyone needs advice they can always turn to a Eug to help them out. The Eugs have been through some hard times lately. They've been kicked around and hurt and the most devastating thing that could happen to a sorority has happened (Rest in Peace Rachael, you are so loved and so dearly missed) but they have thrived using the short sticks they've been given. They've been knocked down by low numbers and bad jokes (yes, we do all remember the Greek Talent Show from last year. No, we won't talk about it) but through it all they have proven that they will never give up. Stay strong you beautiful Eug's. Don't give up on us because we will never give up on you.

Kappa Psi Omega

Beautiful. Talented. Amazing. What can really be said about the Kappa's that'll be able to engulf everything that they are? They are so strong and so happy all the time. It's hard not to get excited when you see them embracing each other and laughing loudly and acting like they haven't seen each other in years when really it's just been a few hours. They are always dressed to impress - equipped with coffees, Uggs, and some very cute burgundy Kappa sweatshirts. The Kappa's are also very smart and I feel like that part is always somehow forgotten when people talk about them. They are smart young women who have the power to literally do anything they set their collective minds to. They all move around and are involved in so many things that when you walk into Hoerneman you'll see a Kappa every place you look. All of the Kappa's are beautiful (of course) but they are also fiercely intelligent. Never underestimate a Kappa.

Delta Sigma Chi

Delta Sigma Chi is one of the best groups on campus (am I being biased here?) it is a group full of thriving women whose goal is to better themselves any way they can. They are beautiful and passionate and honest and wholesome and they make me want to be a better person. Sure, like every group they've had their internal struggles but they've grown from them and become better leaders and better people because of them. The Delts are a family. A big slightly dysfunctional family but a family none the less. They love each other dearly and it really shows. You really never see a girl in Delt letters walking alone (that could be because there are so many of them...) To be a Delt means to be a part of a sisterhood that cares about you. To be a Delt means to be a part of a long legacy of strong and passionate woman. To be a Delt means that you have people who care about you. The woman of Delta Sigma Chi are so involved all over campus and also so ready to help others out. If you call they will literally come running. Their sisterhood spans years and will continue to live on through any hardships that are thrown their way. The Delts are a large, crazy, dysfunctional, intelligent, amazing, beautiful family.

It doesn't matter which group you're in. If you are a Greek that means that you are a part of something bigger than yourself. You are a part of an organization maybe over a hundred years older than yourself. It gets hard, at times, to remember why exactly we pledged. Sometimes, that fire that blazed in our hearts when we got our bids starts to die down because people tell us that sororities and fraternities are just big groups that make you pay for your friends. But we know that's not true. We know the truth. The truth is that our groups make us better people. They make us want to be better people. They make us want to graduate and become something great that way when people come to campus they'll look at our Greek group and say, "Wow... I can't believe that person was in that group. I want to join so I can be just like them..." We love our sororities and our fraternities and our men and women's societies because even though we may move on to so many places we will always know that our Greek Group is our home.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

A Few Thoughts Every College Freshman Has

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

9 Reasons Why Friends Are Essential In College

College without friends is like peanut butter without jelly.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
