It’s a sad fact, but it just so happens to be true. I have always been plus-sized and I have truly come to embrace this, playing off my curves in several outfits as well as using it to give myself an edge. From being a dancer, I learned to use the body I was given, so with that, I was assigned certain roles and had to learn to perfect them. Thankfully, I am in love with my body and the way it looks, because truthfully, I know that it defines me as a person.
So, let this play out in your head. You see a woman walking down the street and she is exuding confidence, her hair is blowing in the wind, and then you look down to see her body and she has a few extra pounds than a “regular” body type. Your first thought may be, “she’s so confident” and then immediately after, “she’s pretty for a big girl.” Unfortunately, in today’s society first impressions are everything; people are more likely to remember you for what you look like rather than what you say. So, let me give you a word of advice, love your body and be confident in it. People will remember this confidence and overlook your not so desirable parts. Be comfortable in your skin and learn how to play up your body type. Look the way you feel, which should always be beautiful, but, don’t let your body stop you from reaching your dreams. If people don’t like the way you look, that’s their problem, not yours. Never let anyone stand in your way, but a tip is to use your looks as an advantage; let your curves me memorable. Wear that red lipstick, because this will stick out in people's minds. Be confident. Don’t fade into the background.
Let me leave with these last few words of advice. Be who you want to be, and don’t let anyone drag you down for it. Your body may set you up for a whole world of opportunity, and never let yourself be discouraged by it. You are beautiful in your own skin, and I’m sure there is someone out there who envies you for what you have. So, love yourself as well as others, and be the best version of you!
