Growing up, I was always a chubby girl. Even when I was "thinner" I was still bigger compared to all my friends. Although my friends were very supportive and full of compliments, they just didn't understand what it felt to be my size. They didn't get why I was so self-conscious or the struggles I faced in a social sense. Here are those struggles that all us chubbier girls know:
1. Always wanting to wear that crop top but being too afraid to show your belly
No matter what all of your friends say, you always end up changing out of that crop top before you leave the house, even if it is 90 degrees outside.
2. Always looking for dresses that aren't tightly fitted
Every girl wants to have a nice tight dress for a night out with the girls. This is probably the biggest struggle for a chubby girl. Dresses only fit two ways: Either your stomach sticks out, or you can't see your stomach at all. Those tight dresses just don't do you justice.
3. No matter what kind of shorts you get, they always ride up because of your thighs
Shorts are a nightmare. You could be wearing jean shorts, and they will still manage to ride up your legs.
4. Holes in your pants are a normal occurrence
Normally, when people's pants rip, they are unprepared and upset about it. Not you -- this happens at least every other week. You got that extra pair of pants and patching supplies ready at home.
5. Wearing a two-piece at the beach causes a few stare-downs
There are either dirty looks or looks of admiration, but that comes with everything.
6. Never being able to borrow your friends' clothes because they are all smaller than you
And vice versa for them.
7. Owning the same shirt as someone in a smaller size than you makes you feel a little insecure
Although, they might feel the same too.
8. Always having to try on clothes at the store to make sure they look OK on you
Never. Buy. Without. Seeing. It. On. Take the extra 10 minutes. Believe me, your wallet will thank you.
9. People think you're unhealthy
I can count on both hands the number of people who think I am chubby because I live an unhealthy life. My metabolism just isn't as fast. Stop assuming.
10. Not falling into today's body stereotypes
Now the stereotypes are either thick or thin. So what happens if you're not curvy enough to be thick and not small enough to be thin?
11. Everyone preaching that "you should be comfortable in your own body"
Yes. Rightfully so. Honestly, it isn't that we aren't comfortable with ourselves, but in a society so judgmental, there is no harm with a little caution in choosing what you should wear.
Overall, the important thing to remember is that no matter what body you have, as long as you are living a healthy life, you should always love yourself. Don't ever let anyone put you down -- everyone is beautiful. Life is too short to worry about what negative people think of you. Life is too short to not wear that crop top you love in the summer. So go ahead, wear it, and love yourself.
