Please Remember To Take Care Of Yourself During Finals Week

It's the most stressful time of the year.

Thanksgiving break was so relaxing and fun. So relaxing that we tended to forget about all the papers and exams coming up. But once we return back to campus, the reality hits. The all-nighters begin, and for the first time all semester, the library is packed. It's easy between all the studying and papers to forget that we need to take care of ourselves, especially during finals week.

It's good to be on top of things, but it's good to take a break, too, and relax. Take care of yourself, even it's something as small as taking those extra few minutes to nap. Here are some tips that you should remember during finals week.

1. Eat healthy.

We can't think on an empty stomach, and eating bad doesn't help our energy, either. I get that it's hard to cook and eat at a normal time when we're busy studying. With all the studying, I find myself grabbing something quick like pizza from the Student Center. But it's important to eat healthy this week.

Meal prepping before the week starts can help avoid eating unhealthy, or if you do need to grab something quick, think of a healthier alternative. Treating yourself isn't bad. If you want some ice cream for studying so long, go get that ice cream! I'm just saying don't forget to feed your body correctly during all the chaos.

2. Get a good night's rest.

Pulling all-nighters during finals week is pretty inevitable, but don't do it the whole week. Our bodies need to rest, so we can perform the best to our ability. I used to find myself pulling all-nighters and being so tired the next day. It became hard to focus by the afternoon. It's not good for our bodies. I get pulling all-nighters happens in college, but if you do pull one, at least get some rest beforehand.

3. Take a break... you deserve it.

If you find yourself getting stressed, that's okay. It happens and you are definitely not the only person on campus feeling stressed. Taking a break is NOT a bad thing; our brains need it. If you're feeling stressed, take a snack break, watch a TV show, do a face mask, listen to some music, and even go for a walk. Anything works, and don't feel bad about taking a break.

4. Think positively.

So much is going on during finals week and it can be pretty overwhelming. You might be doubting yourself. It is important to try and stay positive, not just during finals week but most of the time. Staying positive can really help boost your confidence and give you that extra push. Don't worry about the negatives and if you might pass this test. Believe in yourself that you will pass that test.

Taking care of yourself is important because you matter more than any of these exams. Enjoy the things you love during finals week, and don't get too lost in the books and papers. If you feel like the stress is getting too much, talk to someone. Talk to a friend, a parent, a counselor, or go to your school's wellness center. Trust me, you are not the only one feeling like this during the most chaotic week of the semester.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
