Lake Erie and its islands are visited by many throughout the summer months. With the vast number of local restaurants, there is always something new to try.

1. Berardi's Family Kitchen- Sandusky ($$-$$$)

Berardi's famous fries have been in the area for over 70 years and were once sold at Cedar Point. They serve up almost anything you can think of, with the fresh home cooked taste. Try out their famous fries after a long day at Cedar Point. Surely not a place to miss!

2. Sortino's Little Italy Restaurant- Sandusky ($$-$$$)

The Sortino Family has been serving Sandusky classic Italian cuisine since their migration in 1952. The restaurant is in a historic building that was once an orphanage. Hopefully, there aren't any ghosts while you eat away!

3. Small City Taphouse- Sandusky ($$$)

This chic sushi pan Asian restaurant and bar is newer to the scene. Right by Kalahari, it's great for craft beer and sushi lovers, as well as those who aren't as daring.

4. Cameo Pizza- Sandusky, Huron, Catawba, Put-In-Bay ($$-$$$)

Cameo has been a family owned business since 1936, and a popular pizza favorite for locals and travelers. The sauce will have you wondering what's in it, but shhh, it's a secret. Visit one of their 9 locations on the shore, and even on Put-In-Bay.

5. Dock's Beach House Bar and Grille- Port Clinton ($$-$$$)

After a long day on the islands, or just coming back, Dock's is one of the best lakeside dining. A short walk or drive from the Jet Express dock, their food and live entertainment is one to explore. You can even have events and get married there!

6. Bistro 163- Port Clinton ($$)

This pay-it-forward cafe is one of a kind in the area. Their mission is simple: "To increase food security and offer all neighbors a place to eat and come together as one community." When paying for your meal, they ask that you give more than what the price is. The extra money helps pay for meals for those who come in and cannot afford it. If they cannot afford it, they are even able to work off the price of their meal.

7. Crosswinds Restaurant & Bar- Catawba Island ($$$)

If you're looking for a nice sit-down spot that can accommodate the whole family and their tastes, Crosswinds is a great options. They have a vast menu, along with Lake Erie perch and walleye.

8. Tin Goose Diner- Catawba Island ($$)

This diner is certainly stuck in the 50's and serves everything that way. This dinner at the Catawba Airport serves up dishes as well as artifacts from the Golden Age of Aircraft. Try one of their milkshakes or airplane named dishes, breakfast, as well as visit the museum while you're there.

9. Mon Ami Restaurant- Catawba Island ($$$-$$$$)

If you are of age, Mon Ami Winery is great for tours and wine samples, as well as dining on the patio during warm summer days. Everyone can enjoy their delicious menu ranging from burgers and salads to seafood and pizza.

10. Ciao Bella Ristorante Italiano- Catawba Island ($$$-$$$$)

A fancier choice for the area, but certainly one to taste. Their Italian menu, desserts and drinks are great for a fancy date night.

11. Cleats Bar and Grille- Marblehead ($$-$$$)

Cleats was founded in North Royalton, Ohio, but came to the Lake Erie shores to serve up their famous wings. They serve the classic burgers, pizza, and sandwiches, along with many seafood options. Stop in for a bite to eat on the patio, overlooking the lake and listening to live music.

12. Toft's Dairy- Sandusky ($)

Ohio's oldest dairy has been serving Sandusky ever since 1900. Their ice cream flavors are endless and are even named after a few Cedar Point rides. You'll be sure to find a flavor you like. But get their quick during the weekend! The line is usually out the door!

13. Brown's Dairy Dock- Marblehead ($)

Brown's is located right by the lake and serves ice cream as well as food. Be sure to try one of their fresh fruit sundaes and orange sherbet!

14. Dairy At The Dock- Catawba Island ($)

Just stepped off the Miller Ferry? Walk over to Dairy At The Dock for a quick ice cream treat before heading home. That is, if you haven't already had some on the islands. Try one of their flavor burst cones, or even dole whip!

15. Brown Dog Gelato- Catawba Island ($)

This shop just opened this summer, and it is certainly one to try! This dog themed gelato and coffee shop is perfect for ice cream lovers! Every serving even comes with sugar cookie dog bones! The shop is certainly Insta pic worthy!

16. Mr. Smith's Coffee House- Sandusky ($)

Mr. Smith's serves hand crafted coffee drinks and sandwiches in Downton Sandusky. They even have drink options for the non-coffee obsessed.

17. LynMarie's Coffee- Monroeville ($)

This shop is a little bit of a drive from the lake, but the atmosphere is to die for! Make sure to take lots of Insta pics with friends and this quaint shop started by two sisters. If you love floral patters, pink, and coffee, this place is for you!3. House of Donuts

18. Coffee Express- Port Clinton ($)

This house-turned coffee shop has food and handcrafted drinks for everyone. Each employee serves the drinks happily, and the names of the items are great!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
