As many may know, each Panhellenic Sorority benefits different charitable organizations. There is Alpha Delta Pi with the Ronald McDonald House Charities, Chi Omega with Make-A-Wish Foundation, Phi Mu with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Pi Beta Phi with Read. Lead. Achieve., and Zeta Tau Alpha with Breast Cancer Research and Awareness, just to name a few. Philanthropy events can range from a waffle night to a 5K to a golf tournament, and each event is unique for every chapter. During recruitment, philanthropy, socials, and other events were showcased to all those participating. Despite the hype surrounding Greek social events, our philanthropy is what we love, and it truly matters to us.
Philanthropy makes a member passionate about the cause. It makes members want to pass out flyers in the freezing cold, the day before a chemistry test. It makes members want to get up at 6:00 a.m. to set up for a 5K. It makes them want to talk to someone for an hour about how their philanthropy is the best and why. It makes the chapter bond as a whole, because, together, they are making a difference. It makes the chapter more supportive and loving. It makes for a positive soul among all members.
Greek life is more than the nice houses, the t-shirts, and the mixers. It binds each member to an amazing cause they are passionate about long after graduation. Philanthropy allows us to be a part of something bigger than ourselves, and even bigger than our chapter. And that’s why philanthropy matters.
