For those of you that do not know, Will Smith has a movie out right now called "Concussion". It's about a Nigerian pathologist from Pittsburgh that discovered something called CTE, which is a traumatic brain injury. He noticed a trend of CTE within football players in the area. Not knowing much about football, he went through a lot to try to get others to understand what was really going on within the NFL. I won't spoil the movie, for those that would like to watch it, but it was an excellent movie! Will Smith did great, like he does always, but the movie really opened my eyes. After watching what happens to players after getting concuss, I do not want my child playing football! It's great to watch and people love it, but I will not be the mother that has to go through her child possibly having CTE. I'm sure that other sports have severe injuries as well, but there hasn't been any movies about it, yet. This was based on a true story, meaning that all four of the players that died from self-inflicted situations, had something that they were going through related to football. Of course there would be controversy with Will Smith's character because he knew nothing about football. Him and his wife went through a lot of trouble, but the subject needed to be talked about. All of the characters did well.
It all started when Mike Webster, a star player for the Steelers, was found dead in his pickup truck. Will Smith's character did research and went from there based on his observations.
My question is, when people see the movie, what will they think? I know that I don't want my child playing football, but I would love to hear input from others. Some may not be affected at all by the movie, and will still continue to play, knowing the risks. But, will anybody give up the sport completely? It may be different from the standpoint of an actual football player. Since I do not play football, I don't really have that much of a connection to it.
I have a very strong opinion on it, but for the movie's whole, I would watch it again and again. Alec Baldwin played in the movie and I love him in movies! That made it even more interesting. Give it a try, it's definitely worth the money and the movie theater effects make it even more intense.
