Has it ever crossed your mind that we as American citizens are extremely arrogant human beings?
This isn’t to make you feel guilty but rather to open your eyes...
We all fall victim to this at some point. We are so consumed with our lives that we fail to look around and see that other’s have deeper struggles and harder challenges to be faced.
We live in a society where media is at the center of our world. We rely on it so heavily in order to discover which Kardashian just posted the latest scandalous picture or which presidential candidate is bashing the other. What is going on with the rest of the world? There are bigger issues to combat and fight. We have a world to save.
You probably hear this all the time, but there are people out there suffering and by suffering I mean REALLY suffering.
I want you to sit for a minute before continuing reading and think about the things you have complained about in the last 24 hours and see if it rivals any of these truly devastating things people face every day.
This kind of suffering is a reality for those in impoverished countries. That’s not to say we don’t have it here in America, but there are people out there in other countries who have never once experienced what it’s like to have fresh water or a pair of shoes.
We complain about Obamacare and having the opportunity to be seen in hospitals all over the country. Can you imagine a life where the nearest hospital is 50 miles away by foot?
When it comes to clothes, our closet and bank accounts are at our disposal. We want to follow the latest and greatest trends, but can you imagine wearing the same outfit every single day that doesn’t even fit you properly? Next time you’re out shopping keep it in the back of your head that there are those who are out there wanting something simply to keep them warm at night. Do you STILL really need that new dress? #realitycheckWe tend to complain about the conditions we live in. Whether it’s hot or cold, we’re in America so there’s always something to complain about right? I do this ALL the time. We have the luxury of relying on air conditioning or heat, while third world countries can’t afford these comforts. Due to the extreme climates most of these individuals live in, they become stuck in their sweat and filth with nothing to restore their hygiene.
Unfortunately the majority of the time we take our family and those dear to us for granted. Although many of us are lucky enough to have family surrounding and embracing us, there are those out there who have no one in their immediate family there to kiss them goodnight. They instead have to learn at a very young age to fend for themselves. So next time you get mad at your parents for not letting you go out with friends or having a curfew, remember that there are people out there whose families can't risk spending the majority of their time at home, knowing at the end of the day they need to provide for their family.it is time to act. We always claim we feel so terrible and are extremely empathetic to those in other countries, but where do our actions lie? Do they lie with tackling the issue on preventing people from coming into our country or do we chose to stand with those who value and see the potential America has to offer?
So next time when you think you’re having a bad day, think about how much worse off you truly could be. Failing that test isn’t that bad when you realize there are some that go their entire life without an education.
All I’m asking is that you take a step back from your hectic and stressful life and realize how good you truly have it.
If they can make the best of it, why can't you?
