There are those people in your life that, for some reason or another, just get you. Whether it is that you have endured similar hardships, experienced similar upbringings, or just possess an indescribable chemistry, there seems to be that one person, and if you’re lucky, maybe more, that you just click with. This is your person.
Upon first meeting this person, you may experience that you connect instantly, and it’s as if you’ve known each other you’re whole lives. You feel comfortable with them, and, for reasons you may not be capable of explaining, you trust them.
In the metaphorical job description under “your person,” it states that they will never judge you, will feel joy when you feel joy, and will feel pain when you feel pain. This relationship is a unique one that encompasses the purest form of love for another person, in offering support, honesty, and loyalty.
Your person has special powers. Like a mother, your person has a strong intuition about you. They recognize when something is wrong, even if you are sure you’re masking it perfectly, and, although they are probably the first one you would call to tell, they can sense when you are happy or something good has happened.
It differs person to person, but for instance, there are some girls who feel very self-conscious without makeup, or scrubbing it in sweats, no bra, and a baggy t-shirt, but all of those reservations we have with others do not apply with this person. It can be a significant other, a best friend, a sibling, etc., but the common theme is that your person is always someone who can be honest and comfortable with you, as you can be with them.
When you’re with your person, it’s like you’re kids again. You can make goofy, stupid jokes, and they’ll still laugh with you, and they really are laughing with you. You can be carefree and immature, because you know they will not judge you and are likely doing the exact same thing.
Your person will do everything in their power to find someone’s car to borrow, just so you don’t have to do the awkward walk-of-shame at 2am in sub-zero temperatures, buy a pizza and watch Aladdin cuddled up in your twin XL bed in your sorority house.
You and your person can spend hours on end watching SpongeBob or dancing around to The Jonas Brothers until you’re out of breath, even when you’re far too old for that to be acceptable.
You two will piss off every waitress by refusing to leave hours after you’ve finished your food just because you enjoy each other’s company so much. Only after you have interrupted their ordering to make sure all of their allergies are made clear until that waitress has it drilled into her head that there can be absolutely no gluten.
Overall, your person is a piece of you. The parts that make you better, and the parts that sometimes annoy the crap out of because you know they are right, but you wish they weren’t. Cherish this person because they are exceptional. Do not take them for granted, because they may be one in a million.
