When many people think of siblings going to the same school, they usually think of going to elementary school, middle school, and even high school. Only rarely do siblings go to the same university. I, on the other hand, am I said rare occasion. Additionally, my younger sibling, Ryan, and I are on the track of going to the same medical school as well. Basically, we have been together for 20 years, and we still have a couple more years to go. Having a sibling at the same college can be pretty sweet, and here is a list as to why that is.

1. You Have at the Least One Friend

When you go to school, and you are the younger one, you are guaranteed at least one person that will hang out with you.

2. Work Together Dealing With Parents

We have all been there... you know, when we have not phoned home in a while. When you have a sibling at school that does phone home more often, they got your back when they ask why you have not called. "He has been busy with work!" or "He has had exams all week" are clutch excuses. At which point, your sibling scolds you to phone home once in a while...

3. You Have Your Friends, Then Your Sibling's Friends

It is basically a guarantee that you have a couple of groups of friends at school. But when you have a sibling, you can just plop yourself in their place and chill with their friends! So you got your friends, but you can always chill with your sibling's group of friends.

4. Same Major? No Worries!

If you are lucky enough to have a sibling studying the same things as you are, you can always help each other out and study together! Two/three/four heads are better than one!

5. You Push Each Other

Going along with #4, you push each other because you absolutely know the potential that the other has, and they recognize that same potential in you.

6. Long Trips Home

When you are making a trek home to enjoy break for a couple of days, you are always guaranteed a travel buddy. You basically never have to worry about a boring car ride back because you got someone to talk to (and, if you are lucky, has the same taste in music).

7. Real Talk...For Real..

Your sibling at school is the one person who will say it how it is. We all have friends that try to tell us the "un-sugar coated truth," but your sibling is the one that you can expect to hear the honest truth from, no matter how much you do not want to hear it.

8. Partying?!

Back at home, you really could not party with your siblings because of the 'rents always being on us. At school, the partying atmosphere unfolds a whole new dimension between siblings to be discovered. Word of advice, going drink to drink and trying to compete with each other probably is not the best idea...

9. Got Each Other's Backs

Going along with #7, they are the people that support you when you need it.

10. Raves?!

When you and your sibling have common interests, going to off campus events is actually pretty entertaining. This can be anything from going to a rave together, a concert, or even going to school wide events. When you and your sibling have common interests, it is that much more fun!

11. Just Chilling

When you are at school together, you have more opportunities to chill together. Even though you do that at home, without your parents and the complete freedom of school, it is a totally different dynamic that you discover. And that dynamic carries over into the people that we grow up to be

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
