We all wish for many things in this life, but, for me, to be taller is no longer one of those things. You see, there are many advantages to being short. Numerous people overlook the happy bonuses of having a less than average height. Shortness normally has a bad connotation, but I am here to disprove everything about that. Here come just a few of the copious perks of being short that I have come to know and love.
On meeting a short person, what is your first thought? Usually it goes something like this: “Awwwwww!! You are SO cute … and short.” What you do not tell this new acquaintance, however, is that you think they are so adorable because they are short. Their preciousness directly correlates to their height. Similarly, any picture with a vertically challenged person will turn out adorable. Well, as long as the picture is posed properly. The short person should be placed in the front of the picture preferably doing something fun or flirty or fantastically winsome. The people with the drastically different heights should not, under any circumstances, be standing right next to each other. Let’s face it, that combo makes for a ridiculously awkward photo, but if the taller person’s head is placed on top of the shorter person’s, for instance, then come on — masterpiece.
In the midst of gargantuan crowds, you short people can slither in and out of people to meander your way through. If you stand in front of someone in a crowd, there is no problem because the person behind you can see right over your head without even a crane of the neck. Similarly, you make for the perfect armrest for your not so vertically challenged pals. You are an expert at reaching items that should otherwise be out of your reach. You climb over counters, scale bookshelves and leap fervently to reach your goals, quite literally. Yeah, your goal is that peanut butter on the top shelf of the pantry and you will not be deterred from the sweet victory of grasping that jar without aid from anyone else. Whatever it takes.
Those of you with height disabilities know that in the world of fashion finding clothes that fit properly can be quite the challenge. However, there are some positives drawn from those short legs and small build. Nothing is too short on you. Skirts, dresses, kimonos, or whatever clothing item your heart desires to wear, will never be too short or skimpy on your little legs. Jeans are another battle. Even when they claim to make “short” jeans all short people know that those pants are still too long. What do you do? Well, you can get every single pair of jeans or pants hemmed which is a hassle that I do not recommend, or you can cuff them. Cuff every single pair of pants you own and make it a fashion statement and saving grace from tripping over your long pant legs constantly. Rock that look and make it yours, because you rule at being a vertically challenged person.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, any short person can make themselves comfortable in any crevice. On buses and in cars you can maneuver your tiny legs any which way to form a cozy little haven within the minuscule space you are given while tall people are stuck with cramping legs and unhappy spirits. In class, if you are the really short kind of people that I am talking about, then your legs can swing to and fro as free as can be because your feet do not touch the ground. Short people can make any space their realm and that is a mighty skill to possess.
In fact, short people have many invaluable skills that make life even greater, trust me. Therefore, friends, if you find that you are vertically challenged, don’t sweat it. Revel in your shortness because it is a gift, not a hindrance.
