Parents! What Are They Good for?

Parents! What Are They Good for?

Parents: you can't live with them and you can't live without them. As annoying as they can be, at the end of the day, you still love them. My parents can get under my skin so easily, but I know if I didn't have them, I probably would not know how to do anything. My parents have taught me so many life lessons, and even if I didn't want to listen to them at the time, I knew that they were right.

When you're younger, your parents were seen as the most embarrassing people. You didn't want anything to do with them and you wanted them to drop you off a block away from school so that you could look cooler. I've realized that once you hit college, you wonder where your parents are when you need them. Suddenly, you are overwhelmed with responsibility, and all you want to do is crawl into bed and have your parents deal with it. Parents are the ones that make all your appointments, and I sure took that for granted. Now, when I have to any sort of appointment, I wait it out for as long as possible and think, "Oh it's fine, I'd rather die in my bed than go to doctor anyways." You don't realize how much your parents do for you until you start having to do those things for yourself.

Parents will take any chance that they can get to give you a life lesson. Whether it be when you're in your room trying to relax, or when you just don't want to talk to your parents, they don't care, they will still lay reality on you. Even though my dad thinks I don't listen to him when he is trying to teach me something, I am! Those words were not wasted (well, at least most of them weren't). In all honesty, listen to your parents when they have something to say because they are usually right, so don't try and be a smart-ass. We don't know anything about life yet and they do, so let them nag you every once in a while.

Even though I feel like my parents are out to get me sometimes, I know deep, deep, deep down that they are actually doing what's best for me. Sometimes, however, you have to let them know that you are growing up and you have to make your own mistakes in order to learn. My parents have given me so much and have let me have responsibilities, but they knew when to give me those responsibilities too. Even if they don't seem to know what they're doing, they do. So guys, don't take your parents for granted, because they are actually super cool (even if they don't seem like it), and before you know it you're going to have to be making appointments for yourself (cringes).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
