My mom and I pulled up to my beautiful university to drop me off for my second year of college. It had been a long summer and I was ready for change. Like last year, I was busting with excitement and ready to explore what this new school year has in store for me. I quickly realized this year is going to be awesome, but different. Living in an apartment is a whole new experience than a dorm... and being 20 years old, I no longer have an excuse to act like a teenager. The real world is coming at me fast, and that realization makes me miss the comfort of my parents' presence.
In life we are consistently growing and changing. We physically outgrow schools; move on from certain friendships, and leave our parent's physical "home"-- however, there are certain things about your parent's love you can never outgrow.
You are never too old for your parents' compassion.
The “real world” tells you to grow up and figure everything out on your own. But the real world is hard, and sometimes all you need is someone to listen and sympathize with the little and big struggles life throws at you.
You are never too old for your parents' direction.
You grow up, but they do too. You can never out -- smart them, because their wisdom is always one step ahead. Parents always seem to know know where you are going and where you should head.
You are never too old for your parents' praise.
There comes a time in your life where you are old enough and experienced enough to recognize what your skills are. However, we all yearn to be recognized and commended.
You are never too old for your parents' listening ear.
Moms are always on your side. Weather that is agreeing with your rant about your professor, or supporting you through the ups and downs of a serious relationship.
You are never too old for your parents' companionship.
The older you get, and the more crazy life gets, the more you cherish any lazy time spent with your parents. You are never too "cool" to go out to dinner with them, and no matter how old you are snuggling with your mom is always the best therapy.
You are never too old for your parents' opinions.
Opinions from your Dad will most likely trump advice from any other human. If your parents approve, then you are doing something right.
You are never too old for your parents' help.
No matter how good your job is, there is nothing more comforting than the occasional cash your mom sends you, or the fact that if everything goes horribly wrong you could always live on their couch.
