Last week, everyone's favorite "Saturday Night Live" character, err, I mean, past Vice Presidential candidate, Sarah Palin, gave a strong endorsement to Donald Trump for the 2016 election.
I think some of her key words in her endorsement were:
"He's from the private sector...from the private sector, can I get a hallelujah? We actually have to balance budgets, in order to prioritize, to keep the main thing the main thing. And he knows the main thing. A president is to keep us safe economically and militarily, and he knows how to lead the charge. So troops, hang in there because help is on the way."
WHAT?
This was a real political endorsement? I feel like she wrote this speech and ended it with the shrug emoji.
Even some republicans can agree that Sarah Palin is a little over the top in the cutesy department, making her one of the silliest politicians to grace this millennium. My favorite part of this was the use of the term "main thing." What's the main thing? You can't encompass the duties of the POTUS in a phrase that could fit into the words "main thing."
I guess my question is how significant will this endorsement be for the millionaire and presidential candidate? Sarah Palin has a strange group of fans, mostly middle- to upper-class conservatives that like her because she's a "family woman" with "classic American values." In the most literal sense of those terms, that's very true. But there is a reason why she isn't the current VP, and is almost better known for being a source of laughter for some.
For example:
Tina Fey does a great job in her (slightly) exaggerated imitation of good old SP, but considering this video was my top search result for her name, I have to wonder if Trump will gain any additional support from voters after this endorsement? Aren't the people that already think he'll do a great job as president the ones that thought she would be a good VP? It just seems as if they appeal to the same crowd.
The media reactions to the endorsement were almost as hilarious as the "SNL" video. Here were some of my favorite headlines:
"I'm with stupid." --New York Daily News
"Hot Mess Endorses Dumpster Fire." -Slate.com
"Lady & the Trump." - New York Post
Classic.
I guess he achieved his short-term goal, however. Everyone was talking about the endorsement, generating even more buzz around his campaign. Congrats, Don.
