Whether it be spring or winter vacation, having a break from school is great. But getting ready to leave campus is not so great… Think about it, most of us have the majority of our clothes and other things on campus, and when we go home, we must bring those things with us. But, how much do we actually have to pack? Following these simple rules will help you figure out what to take with come spring break.
You don't need 5 colors of the same shirt.
Okay, so girls like to over pack. I know I'm guilty of this, and if you would've seen how much my roommates and I packed for Thanksgiving break, you'd say we were crazy. But let's be honest here, you know you'll probably end up wearing the same leggings and sweater outfit almost the entire break, so there's no need to pack ten extra sweaters.
The warm versus cold weather debate is real.
And this is just another excuse to pack more than what we need. I totally get that the weather in the Midwest is completely unpredictable, but just because you're going to Florida for four days doesn't mean you need your entire summer and winter wardrobe. Oftentimes, less is more. Try to pack things that you know you can wear in both climates.
If you do have to pack a ton of things, roll your clothes.
If you really do have to pack three of the same white long sleeves, try to roll your clothes in your suitcase instead of folding them. This method has been proven to save space, and flight attendants use it when they have little packing space and are traveling for long periods of time.
Make a list and stick to it.
Lists always help me pack and keep me on track when it comes to packing light. No, you don't need that extra pair of jeans that you KNOW you won't wear, so don't bother putting it on your packing list. Make sure you keep this list short and concise so that you don't have to sit on your suitcase to close it.
Don't forget the essentials.
In the flurry that is packing, make sure to pack important items such as chargers, toiletries and makeup, jewelry and valuables, and of course, homework. Forgetting one of these items could make your break a little rough, so don't forget to put these on your packing list.
Take advantage of the trip home.
Going home means free laundry. So if you have the space to take it with, definitely bring laundry home. Aside from that, you have the opportunity to swap out seasonal clothes, and bringing home clothes means more room in your closet at school for new clothes.
If all else fails, throw everything into your suitcase and go with it.
Realistically, at this point, we're pros at dealing with messy dorm rooms, apartments and sorority houses, so this won't be much different.
