Most girls have probably figured this out by now.
In the wise words of Carrie Underwood, “The more boys I meet, the more I love my dog.” I have never heard truer words. Boys can be unpredictable. My dog, on the other hand, is guaranteed to be wagging his tail every time I come home. If you're skeptical, or just really love your boyfriend, let me ask you this: Will a dog ever leave you and break your heart? Absolutely not. Do they ever “forget” to text back for three days? No. Beside it being physiologically impossible, your dog would never want to intentionally ignore you. Also would you ever have to ask your dog to please stop talking to his ex because it makes you feel uncomfortable? Again, no. If you don’t like someone, your dog doesn't like him or her either.
Now, I’m sure most of you are starting to compile some of your own reasons why your dog is so much better than a boyfriend. Here’s a few more to add to the list.
1. It’s literal puppy love.
Those big brown eyes. Puppy kisses. Cuddling for hours while watching the new season of "Scandal" (and there's no arguing about what show to watch). I mean, who doesn’t love puppies? Seriously, if you don’t, you should get that checked out.
2. There’s no awkward first date.
You lock eyes and immediately know that you’re meant to be in each other’s lives. It's a connection that you simply can't ignore; it's love at first sight. Or at least that’s how I felt when I met my dog. Now, we’re six years steady.
3. Your dog loves you unconditionally.
As much as you might want to think that your boyfriend will love you no matter what, there's probably some limit where that starts to falter. Your dog on the other hand? Chances are that you could do just about anything and your dog will still be wagging his tail when you come home. Just think of rescue dogs that previously had been fought and abused. They still have infinite love to give despite all the ways that humans have hurt them.
4. Dogs can actually reduce stress.
Interacting with animals reduces the hormone cortisol in the bloodstream, which is linked to stress. Also your dog can boost serotonin, which is responsible for happiness. So that feeling of pure contentment you have while cuddling with your dog? It's actually good for your mental and physical health. Yeah, I doubt your boyfriend can do that (and if he can, then as a plea from the general public: please, stop talking about how perfect your boyfriend is to everyone you meet).
