An Opinion On Not Giving My Opinion

Just because I don't fill my newsfeed with my opinions, doesn't mean that I don't have them.

An Opinion On Not Giving My Opinion

Recently I received some backlash on my recent writings involving things that are not current in this world and "don't matter" politically. But since i've been on these topics and not talking about current issues going on nationally or globally, I have been "blind to real issues".

Hold the phone.

I'm the type of person who keeps my political opinions to myself. I normally don't blast all over my social media my opinions on current events, but instead fill it with puppies and pizza or other things that make me happy. Why? Because sometimes our world makes me sad. We are fighting a war across the oceans, people are up in arms about a flag and same-sex marriage, Donald Trump offended half our nation (along with the other half of the GOP), 950 people dead from the heat in Pakistan, nine people were killed in a church shooting in Charleston, the Taliban attack on the Afgan Parliament, and we can't forget about our world going through its SIXTH mass extinction.

Trust me, I am fully aware of the contents of the 10 p.m. news because I watch it. I keep up to date with CNN news and the New York Times through apps on my phone. I am culturally aware. But the last time I checked, it was up to my discretion on whether or not I could voice my opinions on them. Just because I choose not to share millions of articles on my timeline or even write them myself about political world issues does not mean I don't know of these events or have opinions on them.

I see people all over my Facebook newsfeed constantly sharing things going on in our world because those are things they are highly interested in. They care about what is going on in our nation and want everyone to know how they feel about it, and there is nothing wrong with that! But who is to say I don't have those same opinions too? Just because I want to fill my newsfeed with articles about "Finals Week As Told By Corgis" or videos of puppies going down stairs does not in fact mean I am not culturally aware. Those things make me happy and i'm highly interested in watching cute puppies try to go down stairs, and i'm highly convinced all my friends on Facebook would like to see that too.

These issues in our world are so important. It really is up to our generation to get us out of this mess and create a better and brighter future for the upcoming generation. In a world full of political articles and large opinions, I like to throw in things to make people happy and laugh a little. If we get so focused on what is going on worldly, when will we ever have time to enjoy the small little things that make us happy?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
