All of the avid twitter users will know exactly what I am talking about. That feeling of suspense you get when you read a tweet linked to a picture that says "Open for a surprise!". Those five seconds of mystery as the image fully loads, allows for your excitement to build as you hypothesize what corner of the image the cute doggy will appear this time. Will the surprise be a three-month-old golden retriever or a goofy looking chihuahua? No matter the number of times this tweet appeared you knew you couldn't help yourself but to click open the full image. There was no way you were allowing yourself to keep scrolling and lose an opportunity of seeing yet another heart melting, four legged, good boy just doing four legged, good boy things. For all those who don't know what I am referring to, when scrolling through twitter on your smart phones, you may see some tweets linked to an image. At a first glance, however, the image does not show the full picture until you expand the tweet's details. The "surprise" the tweet's caption refers to is usually the irresistible dog that appears once the image is fully loaded.

The summer of 2017 was made 100 times better when these doggy pics surfaced Twitter in the most exciting way possible. These posts ranked high in popularity as each one was retweeted and favorited thousands of times. These tweets brought people together, turned "not so dog people" into doggy lovers, and expanded awareness of just how pure and full of life these lovable doggies are. The dog's caring nature, goofy faces, and sincerity landed a spot under the spotlight. Even more so, many viewed these tweets as a positive distraction from all the current political events that have been taking over the internet. You know what political posts I am referring to, the ones that leave a terrible feeling in your stomach when you think about just how unbelievable an individual with so much power may behave. But whatever, let's save that conversation for another time.
