When your thoughts never sleep, it is hard for you to have a clear mind and even have time to relax. Those who do not understand what it is like to have an anxious mind, here is an open letter to explain the difficulty of being anxious 24/7. Your mind begins to feel like a hamster on its wheel going full speed.

Below is an open letter to what it is like to have an anxious mind.

Dear anxious mind,

You run full sprint all day long, even when I’m just trying to get some sleep. I think about all the assignments for my classes that I have to do within the week. I question if I wrote down everything I needed from the grocery store in my notebook.

I always think about being on time and leave in ample time to ensure I’m never late. Any type of change throws me off schedule because it’s something I did not have time to plan for. If I am late for class, even by 10 mins, my entire day is thrown off and I just would rather start over.

I always have to please everyone and wonder if they are okay and how can I help them? I am always first to lend a helping hand in any way that I possibly could.

Having an anxious mind means the word “relax” seriously means nothing! Like, that word should not even exist to us.

Having an anxious mind also means going by strict routine. Every hour, every day, every month is planned out to a T. If something is going to go wrong or be out of order, we have to fix it IMMEDIATELY!

If I have a problem, I think about it constantly; replaying it over and over in my mind. This can involve trying to find a solution or rethink what you should or should not say to solve the situation. If you have a disagreement, you have it playing on repeat in your mind for a least a day or more.

Having an anxious mind also means feeling like you are going crazy more than half the time. You feel like your outside appearance looks like a crazy person on a caffeine high. But, you know that your mind is the one that looks like a jumbled mess, not your body.

At night when I lay to rest, I wonder if my doors are locked both house and car. Did I submit that term paper the right way? So, of course getting up out of bed to double and even triple check is a must! The tasks that are for tomorrow are already running through the mind.

Sincerely or not so sincerely,

A girl who never stops. (If my brain running helped shape this body, it would be killer!)

PS. Having an anxious mind also means being extremely organized and always being on top of things even when all you want to do is “relax”.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
