Open Letter To My Sistas From Anotha Mista

Dear Sweet Sisters,

I'd like to start off by saying thank you all, for everything you do and everything you don't do. You are always there when I need help, or have questions to be answered. You always pick me up when I am down, and make me giggle when I need a laugh. You don't judge me, and don't ever make me feel excluded or alone.

Thank you for helping pick out outfits for Friday nights, and letting me borrow things so I don't have to go buy something new. Thank you for listening to my problems and complaints and understanding. Thank you for always giving me the best advice you can, and leading me in the right direction.

Even though we haven't known each other that long, I see so much potential in all of you. You all have beautiful souls and voices to be heard. It is hard for me to describe to others the love you all have shown me in the short time we have been together. Other people wouldn't understand the bond that we share unless they were a part of it themselves.

I really have fallen in love with each and every one of you. At first, it was a little iffy at times. I didn't know if I was really "home" or if I was going to find the sisterhood bond that others were finding or had already found. It takes a while getting to know your sisters, there are so many! And they all have such wonderful personalities to be shared. But once you start to remember them by more than just their name your love for them grows uncontrollably.

Running to my pledge class on bid day. Not knowing any of you, but still hugging you like I've known you my entire life. Spending more and more time with you showed me that I found the right place to be. We have silly talks, and serious ones, we even fought over things without really knowing each other.

Our group chat started so out to be so quiet, it would go days without being used. That slowly changed, when it came to people asking if anyone wanted to each lunch, then to just randomly texting it and saying "Hi." Our bond is something that will never be broken, I have found so many things to relate to you girls about.

I never thought I would be the girl who joined a sorority, not that I didn't like sororities. I just never thought I would be able to fall in love with it like others could. They say the girls you meet are the ones you have by your side during your wedding. I didn't think that would be the case, but I was wrong. If I could have each and every one of you by my side for my wedding it would happen.

The sisters I have gained from joining this sorority are not "friends I am paying for" they are friends that accept me for who I am and friends that will forever be there for me when I need them. Friends that will never fail to make me proud of the organization we joined. You could never put a price tag on friendships like this.

So thank you, sisters. Thank you for just being you. Thank you for being there for me. Thank you for your craziness. Thank you for all your help. Thank you for the laughs, and cries. Thank you for the good and bad choice to come in the next couple of years. And thank you for loving me unconditionally.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
