To My College Best Friend

Now I understand why they say the friends you make in college will be your best friends for life

Dear BFF,

You're crazy, you're loud, you're energetic, and you're all of the things I love having in a friend. I never thought I'd meet someone I can relate to so much here at college. I never thought I'd find a friend that could learn everything about me so quickly. I never thought I'd have a friend that my whole family would fall in love with during a brief meeting over FaceTime...

Yet, here you are.

Even though we have only been friends for a few short months, I can already tell that our relationship is going to last for longer than we both may be able to tolerate. I am so thankful I met you during the awkward first moments of orientation. I remember being so intimidated by you; you were dressed in such a cute outfit with your hair straightened while I rocked my typical jean shorts and baseball hat. Looking back on it, and knowing now how insanely ridiculous you are, you're the last person I should have been intimidated by.

But I am so thankful we met.

Our friendship began thanks to the rain. Remember? Upon being dragged out to the quad by our lively orientation leaders, we shuffled our feet avoiding the wet grass that we had to sit on. I had this neon pink backpack strapped to my back, and decided to sit on it. That's when I awkwardly asked if you'd like to sit on it too, avoiding a big wet stain on your butt from the damp grass. The fact that you didn't even hesitate and just sat extremely close to me on a very humid and sticky day was the moment I realized; I either made a best friend, or you were a psycho who I was most likely never going to speak to again...

Thankfully, you turned you to be my best friend (and only slightly a psycho).

We both arrived on campus that day with the overwhelming drive to get to know the thousands of people that may be our potential classmates, little did we know that we'd find each other before classes even began. I was terrified that I'd never be able to find "my person" in such a large sea of people, but I'm so thankful I found you so quickly.

You lift up my spirits even when I reach my lowest point (a point you know way too well by now). You can sit with me for hours and laugh about absolutely nothing. Our unique sense of humor probably makes people around us think we despise one another, but, in-fact, it is the complete opposite.

You never fail to make me laugh, and you're always there to brighten my spirits when I'm having a lousy day. You're one of the very few people who appreciates my wild taste in music, and you're also one of the very few people I'd allow to sleep in my very small lofted bed with me after a long day.

So, thank you for being almost as sarcastic as I am, thank you for being as adventurous as you are funny, thank you for coloring with me, thank you for letting me vent to you about my never ending valley of feelings, thank you for eating all the junk food known to man with me, thank you for motivating me (sometimes) to work out, thank you for letting me cry on your shoulder for the entire first semester, and most importantly, thank you for being my best friend.

I can't wait to see where the next four years takes us.

Love,

Your BFF

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
