To My Freshman Year Roommate At The End Of Our First Semester
Caitlin McCafferty

Dear Roommate,

Well this is it, we finished out first semester of college! It seems like just yesterday we were out buying the things for our room and now we are leaving each other for about a month. I am extremely thankful for you and all you do for me. Heres to you roomie.

Thank you for making college not so scary. The transition from high school to college can be very scary. However, having you with me through it made it less scary. You and I helped each other realize it is not meant to be scary, it is meant to be fun and you just have to focus on that( and learning of course). Without you, I do not know if I would have made it.

Thanks for always pushing me to be my best. Whether it was pushing me to study or to go to the gym, you always were looking out for me. You see potential in me that I never saw and you encouraged me to thrive and succeed in everything I do. You are my biggest cheerleader and I will forever love you for that.

Thanks for always having my back. No matter what I did or the crazy situation I was in, I knew I could always count on you. You are always ready to jump to my defense and back me up when I need it. You constantly look out for me and it is nice always having someone in my corner. Together, we take down anyone who messes with us.

Thanks for being crazy with me. All my crazy stories I tell my friends at home begin with you. Those times we stayed up until 2 a.m laughing at nothing and making fun of each other will forever hold a special place in my heart. You never fail to make me laugh and together we are the insane in the best way possible.

Thanks for going everywhere with me. Every time we go out, I am glad I have you next too me. We became inseparable the past couple months. Those rare times when we do not go somewhere together, we constantly get asked where the other is. From going to the city to little things like lunch, I love how we sit and talk for hours.

Thanks for being my singing partner. We created a playlist dedicated to us singing the songs together. We run around singing and dancing like weirdos( because that is basically what we are) and it is so much fun. I love singing and dancing with you and although we are terrible at both, we get to laugh at each other.

Thanks for listening to my problems. When one of my friends from home made me mad or I had a big test I was nervous for, you sat and listened to me freak out. You listened to problems about people and things you did not even know, and you sat and wait until I was done. All those times I would rant to you, after I caught my breath, you would give me the best advice. You became my rock.

I know people say that it is bad to be best friends with your roommate. With us, I could not imagine not being close to you. We became family after a couple short months and we even have planned to live with each other the next couple years. I cannot imagine beginning this journey with anyone else and I cannot wait to see what it brings us. I love you lots roomie see you soon xo.

Much Love,

Your Roommate

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
