An Open Letter To My Big Who Is Graduating

An Open Letter To My Big Who Is Graduating

Dear Big,

I cannot believe that we are already here. We are in the process of taking on our last semester together. In just a few short weeks you will be walking across the stage and turning your tassel while I sit in the audience with your family, that has become mine, and bawl my eyes out. I know that you graduating is nowhere near the end our relationship but it is the end of our beginning.

Our relationship started the moment you spoke to me on that night of recruitment and it has grown with every text message, movie night, road trip, and conversation about life since. This campus and this sorority is where we started, it was the beginning of us. However, this relationship we have built is nowhere near over.

There was never a doubt in my mind that you were the perfect person to be my big. We just clicked. Honestly it was love at first sight. From running straight into your arms after opening my bid card to posting that first Instagram where I finally got to call you my Big, I had no idea what impact you would have on my life.

Over our time together on this campus, you have been my go-to formal date when no boys were worthy of going with me, the one who is always down for a Mexican date night (of course with queso), and you have always been a shoulder to cry on when college is just a little too much to handle.

You're leaving me here to take on this world of college all by myself for my last year and I have to say, I kinda hate you for it. I know you aren't really leaving me because this is a relationship that will last forever, but you're moving on to the next chapter while I am still in this one.

I can't stand the thought of sitting in chapter meetings without your funny comments or not having you just a couple seconds away from me at all times. Honestly you have spoiled me by being available whenever I need you and thinking about it being any differently gives me a minor panic attack.

When you join a sorority you have two choices. You can embrace these girls as if they are your family, or you can just be a part of the organization and really get nothing out of it. Coming in and finding you really pushed me to embrace everyone in this chapter as my family because you showed me that love. I am so grateful for the love you have shown me since day one. From the first day we decided, with nothing even being said, that we were going to work towards having a Big and Little relationship people were jealous of and I have to say, we have succeeded.

Thank you for being my best friend, my mom away from home, and someone I can always count on to help me through any obstacle that life or college throws at me. You were the best gift my college years could have given me. Just promise me you won't move across the country or anything crazy like that! We can find you a big girl job right here.

With all my love,

Little

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
