An Open Letter To My Grade School Friends That I Thought Would Last A Lifetime
Personal

Dear grade school friends,

To start this off, I would just like to simply say that I am sorry. For some of you I am unsure of why we went our separate ways, but for others I most definitely know the reasons. Whether it be the changes in our personalities over time, the distance brought between us, different viewpoints, arguments, relationships, etc. I do not care. I just want you all to know that I never intended for our friendship to end and I most definitely still have a special place in my heart for all of you.

Some of you guys I met at a young age, even as young as kindergarten, while others I did not have the honor of meeting until later years such as middle school or maybe even high school. Regardless of the amount of time that I have known you, I'd like to thank you all just the same.

You guys shaped me into the person that I am today. Without you in my life, everything could be completely different. I love the life that I am currently living, so thank you for helping shape me. There have been so many memories, so many laughs, so many smiles and so much love. Each and every one of you has been different in the best of ways and I feel blessed to even say that you have been in my life. Thinking back on the good times brings a smile to my face, yet at the same time it breaks my heart.

Sometimes I wish that time would turn back, so that I could relive those moments and cherish them more than I had. It's a shame that it is not that simple. Every single one of you has your own life story that you are out there writing at this very moment, and it kills me to know that I am not on the next page, and may not even be in the next chapter. I am a part of the past, and the pages have already been flipped past, but hopefully not forgotten. If you are reading this, I sure hope that you know that this is directed toward you, because I want you to know that you have not been forgotten. Your memories are not just gone with the wind; they are stuck to my heart like glue.

I always believed that friendships could last a lifetime, and that it was as simple as that. One thing I know for sure is the fact that children have unbelievable mindsets. I would've never thought about the fact that one day I would not go to the same school as you. I would've never acknowledged the fact that we would get jobs that would take away precious time that we could have been spending together. I would've never imagined a day without talking to you. But that's the best thing about children. They live for the moment and not for the future.

The pictures are there to hold our happiness in space forever. There is no denying all of the fun that we had together. It is a shame that our paths split into different ways, regardless of whether you only live a few minutes away or hundreds of miles away. There is always a possibility of our paths crossing again. Plus if it truly comes down to it, there will be high school reunions. But if you're reading this, please don't make me wait that long.

My love for you has not been shattered. My thoughts on you have not changed. I care for you just as much as I did in the days where we were inseparable. You may not believe it, but you will always be in my heart until the day that I am buried 6 feet under, and even then you'll still be with me. I wish nothing but the best for you and your future. I will always be here if you ever need me. Keep in touch.

Sincerely,

Me

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
