Words of wisdom to make this year your year

Hey, it's me, or should I say you. I want you to be able to look back on this letter and see if you followed any of the advice I'm about to give you. If you are smart (which I'd like to think we are), then you will listen and learn.

1. Stop trying so hard.

I mean this on a personal and social level. Stop caring what others think of you. If you want to dance like a dork at the bar and bust out the robot, do it. Dance like nobody's watching and let your freak flag fly. Also, doing makeup and looking nice is fun, but it's not always necessary. Who cares if you go to the library in sweatpants and without makeup on? Own it. As long as you're comfortable, that's all that matters.

Speaking of the library, stop being so hard on yourself. Yes, you may have a B every now and then, but hey, it's college. At least you're doing it. Do not stress yourself out until the wee hours of the morning trying to be the perfect student. Sometimes it isn't worth it, even if it reflects in your grades. Your mental sanity needs to remain intact.

2. Forget about those who don't make you happy.

Why be around those who do not treat you the way you should be treated? You want to be surrounded by the type of people who will put a smile on your face at the end of the day. However, instead of cutting people out of your life completely, try distancing yourself from the negative people. Branch out, find some new people who never make you cry or wonder why you're friends in the first place. Friends should be the people who make you better, not hold you back.

3. Try new things.

I mean this from your abroad experience to when you're back in the States. Don't be afraid to try new things. It could be a new food, a new workout, a new style. Pretty much anything. Get out of your comfort zone. You might be surprised by what you enjoy.

4. Appreciate the little things more often.

It's easy to get caught up focusing on the big things in life, but sometimes you need to take a step back and appreciate all of the things you're lucky to have in this world. Everything you are able to see and feel, such as a sunset or laying in your comfy bed, should be enjoyed more often. Do not take things for granted because some of the things you have, others do not.

If you follow all of these pieces of advice, you are sure to have a happier, healthier year. Last year might not have been the greatest year, but you're about to make 2018 your b*#ch!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Being Invisible The Best Super Power

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
