Being a 21 year old woman in my junior year as an undergraduate, I am FINALLY starting to appreciate the "nice guy". The guy who is always sweet, genuinely cares about how your day went, cares about your family, and is there with your favorite ice cream when you ugly cry. Yet the phrase, "nice guys finish last" is becoming more and more true. So here is an open letter to the nice guy:
Dear nice guy,
I know it's hard being nice, and I know some guys are reading this and thinking why wasn't she this nice three years ago? Because, women take time to realize what kind of man they want in their lives. There are phases every woman goes through before settling down with a genuinely nice guy. You have to go with the clown, the complete jerk off, the one you NEVER take home, and unfortunately there are many, many more. But I am here to say, that eventually these women will wake up and want a nice guy.
I know the first couple years of college the nice guys always seem to finish last, but trust me, this is marathon, not a sprint. While that dude with the backwards, upside down visor might be getting all the dates leaving you scratching your head wondering if being a nice guy is really worth it, the answer is yes, it is worth it, because eventually we're going to wake up and start chasing after you, the nice guy.
It's the nice guys that make the best long term boyfriends, the best husbands, the best fathers, and the best kind of man to spend quality time with. It's irritating right? Being the nice guy, I know. But all I can say is - keep being that guy, because eventually one woman is going to wake up, look at you and realize, you're the nice guy she's been looking for.
So no matter what, keep being the nice guy, it might take a while, it might get frustrating and annoying, but be that guy, it'll be worth it in the end.
Sincerely,
The girl who finally appreciates you
