College relationships: cute Instagram pictures of couples at the football games, dressed up in a couple costume for a frat party or maybe they're in the library studying together. Wow, those can make you feel like crap, huh? How about watching a couple walk to class together? That one’s a doozy. If you feel that way, I’m sure you have asked yourself why you can’t have a relationship like that. The sad truth is, you’re single because you ask yourself that degrading and self-pitying question. You’re looking for love instead of letting it find you.
Love was meant to wait for. Now I don’t mean sit on the couch and check your phone every 2 minutes because we all know that opens the door for overthinking, which then leads to a total train wreck. What I mean is continue with your life and stop trying so damn hard to capture the attention of a guy. If it is meant to be, it will just work. It will feel effortless. You will most likely be so preoccupied with achieving your goals that you won’t realize that you’ve fallen in love until it has already happened. By focusing on your relationship with yourself, you have eliminated all opportunities to overthink and obsess (cliche, I know). Ding Ding! You now have a healthy relationship.
To put it in terms all women can understand: a relationship is like a statement necklace. Do you need it? No. Does it take your outfit to the next level? Absolutely. But at the end of the day, it’s just an accessory. You still need pants, you still need a shirt and you still need some killer shoes. Don’t let that necklace be the only part of your ensemble, because not only is public nudity frowned upon, but you’re missing a whole lot of other elements that will make the outfit even better. If you base your entire schedule around finding a man, you’re missing out on so many amazing things that are designed to enrich your life right now.
I challenge you to capitalize on your gorgeous self. Build up that confidence, love yourself, create balance in your life. Pick out that killer outfit before you try to accessorize it. These factors will make you so much happier than any guy ever will. If you aren’t happy with yourself, how can someone else be? Yes, guys can stroke your ego, but true confidence comes from being proud of your own accomplishments and recognizing your true beauty. No one can do that for you.
You, my dear, are at a time in your life designed for you: our goals, your struggles, your success. College is about you. Don’t try to completely manipulate your experiences to squeeze in a boy because you will be sacrificing more than you think. Be a girl boss, hustle and build that confidence and the right one will be attracted to your success.
