As time goes by people change, they get closer to their friends or they drift apart. If you are one of my friends from the past it was probably for the best for both of us to split up. I could pretend everything is wonderful. We could take selfies together and hastag besties but that wouldn’t make sense. If you’re confused and don’t know what went wrong, here’s a few ideas.
You 180’d
Everyone changes but when you do a complete 180-degree turn and don’t look back, don’t be mad when I’m headed the other direction. I hate that we’ve drifted apart but if you don’t make an effort to stay in touch, why should I? And although our paths went different ways, I’d like to think we helped each other find who we are really suppose to be and where we should be in life; even if it’s not with each other.
I’m Your Second Best Friend
Supposedly, we are “BFF." Yet every time we hang out you have to invite someone else without me knowing. It’s okay once in a while but every time! Sometimes I just want to hang out with my best friend, catch up and share secrets. Too bad you and your new best friend forgot I was even here and I’m done just being the chauffeur.
The World Revolves Around You
Don’t get me wrong, you can always count on me to be a shoulder to cry on or just a pair of ears to listen. I will always be here for that! I also love hearing about everything that’s going on in your life but what’s going on in mine? Oh, that’ right, every time I talk the conversation goes back to you! It took me way too long to realize that I shouldn’t be friends with someone who never asks how I’m doing.
My Words Mean Nothing
Like I said before, I’m all ears! I genuinely care about you and want the best for you. But when I give you thoughtful advice and you never take it, I’m not going to feel bad when things don’t work out.
Talk About Drama!
No matter what we do or where we go there’s always a roller coaster of tears and emotions. Half the time I don’t even know what the problem is to begin with! Yet I always get caught up in the drama and end up losing another friend for you.
You don’t respect my choices
Friends should always be supportive of each other. I would never threaten you and say we can’t be friends if you don’t want to do something you don’t want to do. The moment you said we couldn’t be friends if we didn’t get matching tattoos, I knew our friendship was over. I’m so happy I didn’t get your named inked on my body.
We Grew Up
Honestly, it’s okay to walk out of someone’s life if you don’t feel like you belong anymore. We may have been great friends growing up but as adults we just don’t work out. I believe that we all have friends during different stages of our life and I can’t thank you for being there when I truly needed you.
So for those of you I am no longer close with-- I just want you to know that I’m glad we were friends at one time. We made memories and learned from each other. Thanks to you, I discovered more about myself and who I really am. And although it didn’t work out between us, I still want the best for you.
