The worst thing about living on a college campus is how much people trash it. Not only after parties or events, but also in the day-to-day aspects of college. Never in my life have I seen people so lazy as to leave their garbage all over the bathrooms, lobby areas and even outside. It amazes me how people who are supposed to be educated think it's okay to leave their garbage everywhere for someone else to pick up. If you are one of those people who leave their garbage everywhere, then this open letter is for you.
Dear people who trash college campuses:
You disgust me. Literally. We are supposed to be adults trying to better ourselves through education, and yet people like you give the rest of us college kids a bad name. You spend your weekends tossing alcohol bottles all over the sidewalks and parking lots. I kind of hope you scuff your shoes or get a flat tire on it so you stop throwing it all over the place like a drunk toddler. It is a shame that people like you feel the need to trash the place.
It is also a shame that you make so much noise while you do it. Did you ever think that people might be asleep at three in the morning? This is college and everyone has a lot to do. The stream of endless homework means that we all need our sleep. So stop being so loud and stop trashing up the dormitory hallways.
And speaking of dorms, do you have any idea how sick and tired the custodial workers must be? They have to clean up all these party kid's messes and they never get so much as a thanks. You know, it is not their job to clean up all of your excess mess. They are just there to sweep up a little and handle the waste receptacle. They are not there to clean up all of the messes you leave behind. This includes empty pizza boxes, beer bottles and condoms (seriously, like why would you discard those literally anywhere but a trash can?). If you want someone to clean up after all of your petty messes, then go back home to mom and dad.
Honestly though, maybe you should go back home if all you are going to do is party and trash the place. If you are not mature enough to throw your trash into a trash can, then you are not mature enough to take a degree seriously. Either learn to clean up your messes, or pack your bags and go home. The real world is not going to put up with littering. If you have to be messy, please just keep it in your room.
You have to understand that littering is not okay. It shows that you are lazy, incompetent, and don't belong in college. It is a bother to everyone else, as well as a bother to the poor custodians who end up picking up after you. Finally, it is a disgrace to your school and an insult to higher learning. So please do better in your habits and make better choices. If you are gonna get drunk, don't smash the bottles everywhere. If you are getting pizza, don't leave the box in the bathroom; just throw it in a trashcan. And for the sake of us all, please throw away condoms. Not on the ground, but in a trashcan.
