An Open Letter To My Beach House Friends

Dear Much-Cherished Beach House Friends,

Most people say that you meet your “forever friends” in college; however, I beg to differ. I know deep down in my heart that I met my “forever friends” at my favorite place in the entire world — thebeach. We all met over a span of summers when the temperatures were at an all-time high and stress was at an all-time low. Spending our days tanning at the beach and our nights on the prowl for a good time, we formed an inseparable bond.

It is remarkable how far we have come from the early days of competing in the sand castle contest and daily ice cream runs to Tiki Hut (may it rest in peace) to relaxing on the beach all day so we can be out all night. We have evolved in our card games from our early days of playing spoons to now playing kings. Our innocent summer crushes have turned into summer flings and even to some relationships. Through our three months a year together, I have learned the importance of alternating sides for tanning, to saying no to a cheesesteak every once in a while and what it truly means to be a good friend.

The best thing about our three-months-out-of-the-year friendship is that it is not a three-months-out-of-the-year friendship. You all have showed me that, although we may have miles between us, we are always there for each other every single day. Life gets hard and through the years we have all had our bad days and difficult situations to deal with, but at the end of the day, I always know that I have someone to call to help me through it. Thank you times a million for always being there when my school friends weren’t and reminding me that I was never alone.

As we all grow older and our summers are slowly getting taken away by internships and summer classes, there are some things that will never change. For instance, "Summer Girl" by Leighton Meester will always be our theme song, Sam’s Pizza will always top any pizza place in New Jersey (don’t knock it till you try it), and there is no greater beach then our beach, so Florida can go take a seat. Although we are growing up, the bond we share is like no other and our memories will last a lifetime. To this day our friendship continues to evolve and grow stronger than ever, and I cannot wait to make more memories in our future summers together.

Love always,
Your Forever Friend

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
