An Open Letter To Anyone Who Has Lost Someone They Loved

To whoever it may concern,

It doesn’t matter if it was death or a breakup, everyone has experienced losing someone they loved. If you haven’t, then I would suggest taking advantage of having these people in your life. Losing someone you love is a heart-wrenching event, and a lot of people struggle with what comes next. There is no set amount of time for a grieving process, and I think that’s how it should be. People should be able to feel emotion for as long as they want. With this, I encourage you to take your time, for the grieving process is on your own time.

In recent years, I lost someone very important people in my life. I know what it’s like, and I want you to know that you’re not alone. Like I said, everyone has experienced loss and that means you have people there to talk to and support you. It can be a counselor, an advisor, a friend or basically anyone you’re comfortable talking to. I just want to emphasize that talking about your feelings is the healthy way to grieve and get over loss, rather than keeping them to yourself and bottling up your emotions. While it may be the last thing you want to do, spending time with someone and talking about your feelings can really change the status of your grieving process. I know it can be difficult, but it’s honestly something that should be done.

Loss is a normal thing that happens to people. The people you have in your life right now will not always be there, and that is the sad but inevitable truth. It seems like a harsh and difficult fact to swallow, but the truth is so beneficial to the process. By knowing that there is always a time, place and way to express your emotions and overcome your grief, there should be nothing stopping you from working through your emotional conflicts.

If there is one thing I want you to take from this, it’s that you’re not alone. There are so many resources on every university campus that can help with emotional pain and grief. I hope that all people can learn something from this, and if you ever need to talk about something, my phone number is in my bio. Feel free to text me if anyone needs to talk.

You can do it. You’re not alone.

Sincerely,

Someone like you

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
