Distance is hard. It’s even harder when you don’t know for certain if you will see someone again in the future. I know, however, that we will see each other again. How can I be so sure of it? Because friendship takes work. Why would you put so much time into someone that you don’t think you will ever see again?

I wish I could have been there when your dog had to be put to sleep. I wish I could have been there when your girlfriend broke up with you. I wish I could have been there for everything, and I hope I don’t miss anything important in the future. But there is a good chance I will. So many things (both good and bad) happen spontaneously, and it is basically impossible for me to be there for all of them. That doesn’t mean I can’t try, though.

Thanks for putting up with me through long distance. It’s hard to let someone know how much you love them when you can’t see them in person. On the other hand, it’s also hard to yell at someone over a telephone. Thankfully, there is not a lot of yelling in our friendship, but it’s good to know that we’ll make it if that is ever necessary.

Thanks for apologizing to me when you thought you maybe hadn’t been the best friend you could have been. And thank you for letting me apologize when I did the same thing. Sorry for telling you I would come visit and then didn't come for whatever reason. It wasn’t because I don’t love you.

You are one of the most fantastic people I have ever met, and I hope that I never have to go through life without you. I know I have told you all of this before (and don’t worry, I’ll definitely tell you again), but I hope that other people see this and pass it on to their friends who maybe don’t live so close by. So keep on keepin’ on, and I’ll see you soon.
