Dear you,
You're strong willed and open-hearted. You live life with a passion for helping others through life's most difficult times. You're always there to be a shoulder to cry on and you love that about yourself. But you also want to save everyone, you want to solve all of their problems so you make them your own. But I want to remind you that you must solve your own problems before taking on someone else's. Maybe you try to help others to make up for the lack of help you can give yourself, or maybe you just want to forget the issues in your life and focus on someone else. It's a great way to avoid your problems...until you begin to burn out. This happens a lot with counselors and therapists who are not self-aware. They take the problems of their clients home and dwell on them, allowing them to overtake their own struggles. Eventually, they become emotionally exhausted. Simple everyday tasks seem daunting. And if you're the girl that takes on the responsibility of constantly trying to fix others, well, you know what I'm referring to; the sleepless nights, the constant dull headaches, the anxiety...You are just so mentally drained by the end of each day. But here's the cold, hard truth: You cannot fix people! You can help them and walk them through these issues, but people ultimately have to fix themselves. It is not your job to solve their problems. By continuing to try, you are letting your mental health go down the drain. As terrifying as it is, it's time to face yourself and deal with your problems. Stop trying to hide them underneath the weight of your big heart. You are strong and you deserve all the happiness in the world. But until you can look at yourself in the mirror and not see dark circles from staying awake all night worrying about other people, you will not be completely happy. You're a great friend and those around you adore you. And I promise they still will when you learn to put your own mental stability first. The only person you are responsible for fixing is yourself.
Sincerely,
Someone who understands
