To the girl with a negative body image,
We can all admit that we’ve had a time in our lives where we felt as if looking in the mirror was a chore. We’ve spent time after time, putting our noses up to the mirror inspecting every single minuscule detail on our face. We’ve sat there in our bathroom and shed a tear or two over an imperfection so small, you could only see it with a magnifying glass. It is quite unfortunate that so many girls my age have come to a consensus that they have to look like a 5 foot eleven model to be accepted, and to be considered beautiful. Beauty in my eyes barely has anything to do with physical appearance. Beauty is a shining personality, a caring friend, being trustworthy, and all of those things that cannot physically be seen.
It is sad that we turn to the media to come up with a definition of beauty. We feel like it’s necessary to follow trends and do all of these things, just to make someone else satisfied with us. In all reality, you should be doing nothing else but participating in the things that make you happy. Once you stop trying to impress others, you will realize how satisfied you are in just being true to you. We are perfect just the way we are, because guess what? We are not going to change. We were all born to stand out one way or another, and that is the beautiful thing about being yourself.
Stop complaining about your big thighs, curly hair, or extra fat on your waist. You were made this way for a reason. Curvy is beautiful, skinny is beautiful, tall is beautiful, and short is beautiful. It is all about how you present yourself. Nothing is more beautiful than a girl who radiates confidence. So next time you want to look in the mirror, and point out all of the things you hate, take a moment to think about all of the things you LOVE about your body. These are the things that make you who you are, and you are perfect.
