Let me preface this by saying that it is one hundred percent okay to want to put your partner(s) first when you get involved in a serious relationship. No matter if it is your first, fifth, or last relationship, the effort and affection you put into your personal intimate relations are completely up to you.
This piece is for those who put their partner's feelings before their own. Whether you are dating a boy, girl, an older man, younger woman, or you are involved in a polyamorous relationship. As important as it is to consider your partner's feelings, your feelings matter just as much, if not... a little more.
A lot of girls, myself included, go above and beyond once they get into the relationship with the partner of their dreams. Everything seems so perfect and happy. You cannot even imagine what your life was like before them, or what it would be like without them. This is sometimes one of the best feelings in the world and this period of time in the relationship is commonly referred to as the 'Honeymoon Phase'. The state of bliss and pure romance, where there are no arguments and everything just seems to always fall right into place.
This is also the phase where sometimes the relationship is laid out for one another. You can sometimes see how much each partner will contribute to the relationship down the road and it is up to you to decide whether you want to continue on with your partner. If there is a case where your partner is interested in continuing the relationship further, but you are not yourself, you should not feel obligated to move any further. This is a perfect example of how many females tend to put their partner's feelings before their own, especially if the relationship continues without them necessarily wanting to.
Girls, you matter and how you feel about a relationship matters just as much. Do not let the fear of being alone, or harassed, or even looked down upon dictating how you live your life and who you live it with. Your happiness should always be the number one thing you have control of every day. And if you are not happy, wouldn't you want to do whatever you need to in order to become happy?
Do what it is that makes you happy every day. Be picky about the next partner or partners that you become involved with. There is no shame in being choosy about who you spend your daily life with. The only thing that matters is if you are both equally happy with each other. Find your person that puts that smile on your face, hold on tight, and enjoy the ride.
