It's Ok If Your Life Isn't Together

.An Open Letter to Every 20-Something Year Old

Dear 20-something-year-old,

Right now you're probably doing one of three things, one you are probably in class and scrolling through the internet instead of paying attention, two, you're probably laying on your couch snap-chatting and watching Netflix, or three you're avoiding responsibilities (same). And... I'm here to tell you, that its fine. Not having it completely together is fine.

Over the past few moths I've come to realize that the world and the people around us, for some reason expect us to have it all together. And the truth is, I don't even know what "having my life together" really even looks like. Here are some of the things I've been able to piece together.

First off, no, you don't need to be in a four year relationship on track to getting engaged. Contrary to popular belief. It seems like everyone expects you to be engaged, or in a relationship. The whole idea of "ring before spring" is stupid, so stop paying attention to it. Enjoy your time being single! Yes enjoy dating, but remember that it shouldn't consume your life. Reality is, your heart is going to be broken, probably more than once, but take those moments and use them to grow as a person.

Second, take advantage of every opportunity you get. Travel, do things out of your comfort zone, and try new things. There is nothing worse than thinking, "what if ?". Up until now, there are so many things I wish I had done. Don't wait until you're older to travel, do it now. Do it with the people that mean the most to you. Or travel alone and meet amazing people along the way. Traveling to a different state, and not knowing a single person there was probably one of the most terrifying things I've ever done, but hands down the best experience of my life.

Lastly, be responsible. I'm not saying don't go out and don't have fun, but just be careful. Remember that all of your actions have consequences, whether good or bad. Appreciate your college years, because boy do they go by fast.

So, even if nothing is going the way you had laid it out in your five year plan, it's fine. Breathe. Its going to be OK. Thank that boy that came along the way and made your heart stronger. Go on a hike and take in all the amazing scenery around you. And learn as much as you can about the things around you. We're meant to enjoy this crazy little thing called life, so stop worrying.

Everything is going to fall into place. Gods plan never fails.

Sincerely,
A fellow 20-somthing-year-old.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
