To my first ever adult best friend,

Thank you for accepting me as the crazy person I am. College really changes a person, trust when I say I am not the same person I was when I graduated from high school. College makes you grow up quickly, and I am very happy to have you around to support my growth.

When school got hard, you made sure to be there for me, to hear me rant, even though I was really looking for someone to do my homework. When leadership got tough, you made sure that I was leading with optimism and with the right goals at heart, not taking the lessons I needed to learn away from me. When relationship issues came up, you made sure I was safe and understood, not going and kicking their butts when I wanted. You balance out my life and help me grow and mature into the person I am meant to be.

I understand you had a lot of people to choose from when trusting in and depending on someone, and I am glad it is me!

You underestimate how much of a blessing you are from God. Lord only knows how difficult our journeys are, and as the saying goes "God gives His toughest battles to His strongest warriors". God has made a great troop putting you and me on the same squad. There is a reason why you are in my life, and I am very grateful that you came in now; whether it was during the 18-year-old fragile freshman stage, or a 22-year-old senior who is stuck in her ways.

Going to parties is always fun with you, staying in and having girls pamper day is always the best, but it is always the best time when there are serious conversations happening. When you tell me what I need to hear is when I appreciate you most. Whether it is about finances, relationships, school or work, it is what my life needs.

Best believe when the day comes, you will be standing by my side when I say my wedding vows, you will be one of the first to hold my first baby, and you will help me set up crooked decorations in my first home.

Having a best friend as an adult is a different experience than having a best friend in high school. A true adult best friend makes you talk about the difficult stuff, while the one from high school grows apart and takes their own separate path. This adult best friend will be in your life until you are six feet under, guaranteed. They will be there when you get your first tattoo, when you have your true first heartbreak, and when you literally have a negative penny to your name. They will also be there when you get hired for your first real job, when you buy your first family car, and when you graduate with degrees.

Don't mistake this person for someone who isn't supportive 24/7. A lot of people made me think we were close and then turned their backs on me. I'm sure I have done the same to them, no one is perfect. When you find a gem, you cherish it and ensure nothing will destroy it. That is how I feel about our friendship.

Thank you for being the pea to my pod, the peanut butter to my jelly, and the milk to my cereal. I ask that you be patient with me while I continue to grow and mess up in my life, cause without you, I don't know where I would be!

Sincerely,
Your mess of a best friend!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
