An Open Letter To The Church That Became A Family

Although we are family in Christ, you are so much more than that to me.

An Open Letter To The Church That Became A Family

I walked in on Sunday morning, not a special day or anything like that, just a regular Sunday. I had recently started dating the super cute bass player and it was my first Sunday to go with him. I remember meeting everyone and the first thing they would say to me was "OH! You're Andrew's girlfriend! Does he ever talk?" after hearing that exact sentence nearly a thousand times all the faces started to blur together, but week after week, I was greeted with warm hugs and everyone referred to me as "Andrew's girlfriend," and to be honest they still do sometimes to poke fun at me. All of these new people and new faces were pouring so much love into me before most of them even knew my name.

The least I can do is say thank you. Thank you for:

1. Accepting me where I was in my walk.

When I first joined, nobody expected me to have it all together as a Christian, or to know what God had planned for my life. So thank you for understanding that I probably will never have it all together.

2. Loving me unconditionally.

On most Sunday mornings I get to church looking like a mess, no make up and my hair usually isn't done, thanks especially to Pastor Jason and the worship/media team for understanding that 7:15 is way too early for me to be put together and loving me anyway.

3. Giving me a place to call home.

Whenever I am struggling or feel like I'm about to break down, I know I can call anyone from Crossroads and tell them how I'm feeling and they will bend over backwards to help me.

4. Making me laugh.

Not only does Jason make the funniest jokes in his sermons, but anyone who represents crossroads even slightly can always keep a smile on my face.

5. Filling me with God’s love and wisdom.

This might be the most important one to me, recently I have been getting poured into by some amazing people, *cough* Lauren and Wesley *cough*, and I have never felt closer to God than I do right now.

6. Reminding me I don’t have to do it on my own.

Life is incredibly hard, and I really couldn't do it without you guys' constant support and love. I am reminded not only on Sundays but also with little text's from other people during the week to let me know they love me.

7. Giving me a hand to hold (literally).

I really enjoy that during the end of service when everyone has to hold hands and together as a congregation we pray. Not only do I feel close to the church then but even when I'm not with them.

7. Praying for me.

The power of prayer is just so important, so thank you for praying for me. P.S. Jason, I want to give a special thanks to you for this.

8. Guiding me in the right direction.

Thank you for leading me towards God, a Christ centered relationship, and a Christ centered life.

So thank you, a million times over, thank you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
