An Open Letter To My Freshman Year Roommates

In so many ways, I love you unconditionally.

An Open Letter To My Freshman Year Roommates

I can remember the exact day in July when I read your name on my housing application, having no clue who you were. Stalking all of your social media and thanking god that you looked “normal.” As move in day approached I wondered if we would get along? What would we talk about? Do we like the same things? God I hoped you’d like me, because to be honest, I was petrified to begin college. Next thing I know life throws me a huge curveball, and here I am, emotionally unstable, unprepared, and about to move into our room.

The only thing I can really say is thank you. Thank you for coming into my life in the weirdest way as my random roommate but bringing me the greatest amounts of joy. Thank you for becoming friends with my home friends so that they can check on me through you. Thank you for hours of dance parties and constant laughter. There is nothing quite like the nights where we literally laugh at nothing just because we can.

Thank you for bringing joy into my life on my darkest days and reminding me to smile often. Thank you for forcing me out of bed, just to go get some ice cream. Thank you for introducing me to our friends, who have become like a second family to me. Thank you for allowing me to feel all my emotions and always helping me through them.

Thank you for banging on my wall just to say hey, and doing crazy spontaneous things with me on Thursday nights. Thank you for never letting me walk alone because of the clowns, and just because you love me. Thank you for forcing me to do my work, and helping me organize during my mental breakdowns. Thank you for always being by my side, or a text away when something goes wrong. Thank you for the late night texts about life and boys, to sending me silly GIFS that literally make no sense. Spending a night without you is literally weird and I honestly don’t like it. Thank you for literally teaching me all of your words, and laughing as I use them daily and often. I am confident to say I am turning into you and I think I like it.

Thank you for constantly reminding me how much I am loved, and never letting me question it. Thank you for always bringing me lots of love, and reeses. For making the biggest deal out of my birthday, and showering me with lots of love.

It’s true we were “random” roommates but you have always told me that everything happens for a reason. Perhaps you were put into my life for all of those reasons. To bring me so much joy, so much love, and so much happiness. Thank you for making our room home, for befriending my friends, and for being the best. I love you more than I can ever express and feel truly blessed to have you in my life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
